The Position

We are currently seeking a qualified Project Engineer for our growing company. This candidate will be responsible for the design completion and review from concept to final design for aerial and underground infrastructure projects. This individual will work closely with project coordinators, clients, design technicians, and other engineers and must possess excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Manager of Engineering;
  • Coordinate work activities with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, CAD designers, survey staff, and other Project Engineers;
  • Buried utility outside plant design in accordance with CSA and ESA; Trench details; Trenchless design; and Design minimum required vertical and horizontal separations from other buried utilities;
  • Aerial utility outside plant design in accordance with CSA and ESA; Wind and ice loading; Separations and clearances; and Detailed sag, tension, pole loading calculations;
  • Design reinforced concrete structures such as utility maintenance chambers, pad mounted interfaces and retaining walls for example;
  • Design structural steel components such as conduit hanger systems attached to bridge structures;
  • Mentor Junior engineers and/or Engineering Design Technicians as required;
  • Prepare, sign, seal engineering reports, drawings and documents;
  • The ongoing development of Planview USL’s design standards and methodologies to further develop design and operational efficiencies;

Requirements

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • The ability to deal with multiple projects and conflicting deadlines;
  • Engineering degree from an accredited educational institution with minimum 2 years work experience;
  • Knowledge/expertise in structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures and structural steel elements;
  • Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario, with membership in good standing;
  • Basic CAD skills (minimum).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with utility companies (i.e. electric, gas, telecom, fibre optic);
  • Experience with Municipal / Civil Infrastructure (i.e. water, storm, sewer);
  • Consulting Civil/Structural Engineering work experience.

The Location

Planview Utility Services Limited has 3 offices – Markham, London and Ottawa. Our clients and their projects are based throughout the province. This position will be based from the Markham office. Remote work arrangements are available.
