Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | The 9-1-1 Telecommunications Operator (TCO) assists in the operation of the police communications center for the University of South Carolina’s Division of Law Enforcement and Safety. In addition to receiving 9-1-1 calls into the communications center and handling the dispatching of police resources to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, TCOs also serve as the initial contact responsible for monitoring fire and burglar alarm systems located throughout the University of South Carolina system, notifying the proper University officials and/or emergency contacts when alarm activations occur. Exercising high levels of attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality, TCOs utilize TTY (teletypewriter) systems, law enforcement and driver record databases, and police communications and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems in a timely manner. |

Minimum Qualifications | High school diploma and 2 years’ call center or customer service experience utilizing voice communications systems or central switchboard operations. An associate’s degree in a technical communications discipline may be substituted for the required experience. |
