What’s your next step? How will you leverage the study, training, certifications, and your energy to help develop solutions to transform the health care industry? As an Actuarial Consultant at UnitedHealth Group, you can do just that. You’ll lead complex actuarial projects that have strategic importance to our mission of helping people lead healthier lives and helping to make the health system work better for everyone. It’s an opportunity to help rewrite the future of UnitedHealth Group as you participate in the development of business strategy.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Understand and interpret key drivers of health care trends to provide stakeholders with insights related to recent medical cost activity on a quarterly basis
- Assist in proactively identifying potential operational and strategic opportunities from the monthly claims data review process and support any follow up analytic requests
- Develop ad hoc exhibits based on detailed data sets to help answer complex questions and present key findings directly to health plan leadership and functional partners
- Become a trusted resource for analytic support and insights to our business leaders, market affordability leads, and other non-actuarial partners
- Provide analytic and consultative support for emerging strategic initiatives
- Design and run programs to perform analyses, actuarial modeling, advanced analytic techniques, and/or predictive modeling that provide management with statistical findings and conclusions
- Assist with development of materials, exhibits, and visuals to communicate results
The challenges here are significant. You’ll be part of an intensely driven and focused team that is accountable for constantly improving business results. You’ll be a trusted subject matter expert who’s called on to incorporate traditional actuarial expertise into novel, cutting edge actuarial solutions.
You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or another related technical field from an accredited college/university
- Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or in the process of obtaining designation
- 3+ years of actuarial experience
- Advanced or higher proficiency in MS Excel (i.e. formulas, charts, data manipulation, VBA)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in finance or the health care industry including collecting, analyzing, and summarizing qualitative/quantitative data
- Experience with R, Python, and/or predictive analytics
- Experience with data visualization, i.e. Power BI, Tableau
- Experience with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including written and verbal communication
- Solid curiosity to learn how to improve healthcare affordability with data-driven decision-making
- Proven analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to develop analyses (independently and collaboratively) and present summarized findings to other actuaries and non-actuaries
- Ability to quickly learn and effectively use computer software tools
