Aerial Design Technician – Telecommunications

DFX Technical Services INC. is a telecommunications design and engineering service provider in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area.

The Aerial Design Technician position will perform detailed design of aerial and fiber designs of telecommunication networks using data to develop design layouts and engineering documentation required for complete functional design. The role requires a highly motivated self-starter who posses the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a large cross-functional team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect, analyze and organize basic engineering data as well as evaluate and interpret field surveys
  • Analyze pole lines for required conductor spacing, separation, clearance and physical element strength
  • Design engineering drawings and reports to industry standards including CSA & ESA 22/04
  • Review quality of projects, calculations and design, prior to submission to Professional Engineer
  • Identify key project risk items and offer alternate design solutions to leadership team
  • Articulate design specifications and changes to team members
  • Identify means to streamline internal processes to improve quality and efficiency
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Six months to two years’ experience
  • Ability to read and interpret utility engineering drawings and plans
  • Registered as an EIT through PEO is preferred
  • Understanding of Toronto Hydro, CSA & ESA standards as they pertain to third party attachments on Hydro Poles is preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Experience with structural analysis pole line engineering software (SpidaCalc, Quick Pole)
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to think analytically, apply sound judgement, and solve complex problems
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail orientated

Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
  • Working on a computer for 6-8 hours a day
  • Sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours a day

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $21.00-$26.00 per hour

Additional pay:

  • Overtime pay

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
