ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Based at the Macassa Mine Site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an Automation Technician to join our Business Intelligence team.
The Macassa Mine is a high-grade gold producer, with grade improving at depth, and a key valuation driver for Agnico Eagle. Located in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the Macassa Mine remains one of the highest gold grade mines in the world. Macassa commenced operations in 2002, and with the discovery of the South Mine Complex has been able to increase its level of production significantly over the past five years. The mine is located in an area with well-developed infrastructure, including a provincial highway, a railway system and a private airport. High-grade ore is processed at the Macassa Mill, which currently has available capacity and is located in close proximity to the mine.
The Automation Technician will be responsible to ensure the stable operation and expansion of the surface and underground PLC network. This includes developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing PLC hardware and HMI programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will include:
Strategy & Planning
- Analyze current systems on site, devise and deliver solutions to enhance quality of process
- Consider all repair, maintenance, and constriction initiatives against potential future states to improve flexibility and consistency, reduce maintenance, and manage life of installation costs
- Creation of documentation and drawings (CAD) to communicate project plans assist in maintenance support, and guide apprentices
Acquisition & Deployment
- Installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) on surface and underground.
- Conduct research on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of ICS procurement and development efforts
- Running of electrical, instrumentation and communication cabling on surface and underground
- Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions, and record results
- Assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Perform calibrations of instruments
- Draw or modify diagrams and write specifications to clarify design details and functional criteria of experimental electronics units.
Operational Management
- Ensure functionality of all supported systems.
- Complete modifications when required to HMI projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma/Trade school equivalent.
o Journeyperson Electrician, Red Seal
o Journeyperson Instrumentation, Red Seal
OR
o 2 year Instrumentation program WITH 1 year Electrical Engineering Program AND appropriate experience
- Strong knowledge of PLC and other logic systems
- Proficient in reading schematics and work plans
- Excellent written, verbal, problem solving, and computer skills
- Able to work independently as required or as a team
- CAD experience for documentation of process flow
- Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills
- Valid Driver’s License
- Interest in electronics and associated technologies
- Capacity to problem solve, test, measure and assess
- Good interpersonal skills, communication both written & oral
- Coursework in Computer Science, Programming and/or Networking or equivalent work experience
- Previous mining experience is an asset
- Fiber Optic Telecommunications Installation and Repair
