The Position
We are currently seeking qualified CAD Technicians for our growing Subsurface Utility Engineering team. This candidate will be responsible for the production of computer-aided drawings from concept to final design for underground infrastructure projects. This individual will work closely with project coordinators, surveyors, clients, design technicians, and engineers and must possess excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Drafts and designs new plant extension and as-builts utilizing AutoCAD.
- Produce various maps for permitting and design requirements.
- Provides drawings and details in both CAD based platforms and other media to determine and display design criteria.
- Ability to work with multiple digital file formats and hard copy maps to create electronic base maps.
- Incorporates field and as-built changes from draft prints to the system database.
- Communicates with the Permit Department and Coordinators in order to gather and provide accurate information with regards to construction design.
- Complete projects within prescribed time limits and within budget.
- Works closely with SUE, GIS, Survey Staff, Project Coordinators, and other internal resources to execute projects in a timely fashion, whilst maintaining budgetary restraints.
Requirements
- College Diploma in Engineering Technology or higher.
- 3+ years of working experience in architectural, civil, or electrical engineering.
- Telecommunication experience is a strong asset and preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Good analytical skills and good judgment.
- Excellent spoken & written communication skills.
- Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced and highly energetic environment.
- Detail-orientated and self-motivated a must.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, team player and be adaptable.
- Working experience with AutoCAD 2010 or later is mandatory.
- Good knowledge of coordinate systems and manipulating AutoCAD UCS.
- Strong understanding and use of external file references (xrefs) in AutoCAD.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with outside plant (OSP) design of utilities (i.e. electric, gas, telecom, fiber optics, etc.).
- Working knowledge of Aerial and Underground designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of CSA, ESA and Regulation 22.04.
- Past experience within a telecommunication & LDC company or Engineering Consultant.
- Understanding of Subsurface Utility Engineering and Mapping.
- Understanding on how to read plan and profile engineering and construction plans.
The Location
Planview Utility Services has 3 offices – Markham, London and Ottawa. Our clients and their projects are based through the province.
