Job Summary
A Field Technician Level 3 performs the addition and removal of Common Systems equipment on live and non-live networks. The L3 Tech also operates as the Lead Field Technician, thus directing the activities of lower level Technicians.
The L3 Tech mentors lower level Techs by displaying proper work techniques and providing On-The-Job Training for all tasks described in the L1 and L2 job descriptions.
The L3 Tech assists the L4 Tech or performs with -48DC power work described below.
The L3 Tech also performs Site Surveys for use in Engineering.
The L3 Tech assists higher level Test and Turn-up Technicians, Field Engineers, and Remote Support personnel.
This technician will be assisting critical processes and procedures to ensure the customer’s network is viable and performing to the equipment manufacturer’s specifications. This position is extremely challenging requiring dedication and the ability to absorb and retain information quickly and efficiently.
NOTE: We are project based. While overtime can be quite frequent, 40 Hours per week is not guaranteed. *Income supplement option if there is ever a break between projects is available and can be discussed during an interview.
100% US Travel Required (must have prior travel experience) *When you are on a job, you will be traveling. There will be opportunities for PTO and occasional breaks/weekends home. Details can be discussed during an interview.

- Primary power installation
- Secondary power installation

- Alarm cabling installation
- Inside plant fiber work
- Customer site surveys and documentation
Testing
- Multiple vendor commissioning, provisioning, site testing, and system testing
- OTDR testing
- Traffic migrations and live fiber rolls
- System DWDM Equalizations
- Network unfolds
- Network expansions
- System overbuilds
- System upgrades
- Software upgrades
- Circuit grooming for bandwidth optimization
- Project documentation and record keeping
- Daily update submissions
- Work quality audits for customer and company
Education/Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Education
- High School Diploma (minimum)
Personal Skills and Abilities
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- Analytical Thinking
- Work in a team environment and relationship building skills
- Great time management and documentation skills.
- Results driven with the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks efficiently
Other Qualifications
- Must be willing and able to travel 100%.
- Verifiable work as a Field Technician / Tester for a minimum twelve (12) months
- Experience with Power work
- Experience in a CO or Data center environment
- Experience with commissioning & provisioning all systems & components
- Proficient at installing and logging into multiple vendors’ equipment
- Provide valid driver’s license
- Provide satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report
- Drive safely
- Drive company trucks while pulling trailers using manual and automatic transmissions (this includes backing trailers safely as well)
- Self-motivated and self-driven.
- Operate a Brady Labeler.
- Type at least 45 WPM with 95% accuracy.
- Able to work long hours, at different times of day/night (odd hours)
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio
- Bend, twist, stoop, kneel, repetitively
- Lift/Carry up to 80 pounds, repetitively, and up/down stairs
- Climb ladders safely by maintaining balance and able to use tools and carry materials while climbing ladders
- Have sufficient hand strength and dexterity to use industry specific tools – power and small hand tools
- Ability to distinguish colors and fine print accurately
- Walk briskly at least 30 minutes at a time
Travel
· National travel required – all work involves travel
