JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Senior Construction Manager, the Civil Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall day-to-day planning and scheduling to ensure that the civil work is constructed in a timely and cost effective manner.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTING OUTCOMES
Accountable for all on-site project activities which may include reviewing, monitoring of sub-contractors, supervision, engineering, procurement and any other job related activities
Accountable for resolution of any problems or inconsistencies which occur throughout the construction project. These may include procurement, tender processes, contract negotiations, scheduling, financial/budgeting, equipment, resources, quality, safety standards and commissioning
Reviews specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times
Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules
Orders tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules
Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays. Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within work force
Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods
Help build and maintain positive relations within the team
Protect organizations’ values by keeping information confidential
Enhance organizational reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishment
Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL
Employee may be asked to perform other ancillary or related duties as required, to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Experience
Technical educational background or progressive civil construction experience
Previous supervisory or management experience an asset
Experience with Outside Plant construction or other telecommunications construction projects is preferred
Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes
Knowledgeable with MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication
Effectively project plan
Problem solving
Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
Project management experience is an asset

Physical, Sensory and Mental Requirements
Primarily in field environment
Physically and mentally demanding workload
Shift work
Must be able to travel based on requirements of the project (up to 100%) and work in locations that preclude the ability to return home
