JOB SUMMARY:

The Client Development Manager (CDM) is a highly visible, partner facing position that provides strategic client relationship support to the Firm’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications Industry Group (TMT IG) and the client teams, partners, associates, and practice groups that operate within. Working closely with the Firm’s senior management and partners, the CDM will primarily be responsible for helping identify, develop, and implement strategies and tactics to help the Firm expand existing and win new business from the TMT industry. The CDM will accomplish this by working with existing client relationships, new pursuit targets, and individual partner business development support. The CDM will also help support other key projects aligned with the firm’s broader business development plans and efforts.

The CDM will systematically lead, prioritize and manage a variety of high-profile projects and tasks that require a high-level of leadership and organizational skills. The CDM will also supervise direct reports, coordinating and prioritizing their activities as well as their professional development. The CDM will provide strategic and practical client development support, as well as lead and execute business development and marketing initiatives that support market visibility and new business generation for key client accounts and the financial services industry group.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Support and Client Development
  • Independently manage existing client team relationships, and new business pursuits.
  • Work closely with relationship partner leads in helping to identify and implement strategic ideas that are practical and actionable for business expansion and overall client maintenance.
  • Manage TMT client team portfolio, including production and execute of client team plans and target client pursuit plans, together with relationship partner leads; create and manage the annual client team and TMT IG budgets; organize and actively participate in regular client and pursuit team meetings; commission/conduct appropriate research in support of specific pitches or to enhance general overall knowledge of the client relationship or pursuit’s business.
  • Support new and existing-client RFPs and pitches, working with members of the Firm’s practice development, legal operations management and pricing teams as needed.

New Business Initiatives, Market Visibility and Knowledge Marketing

  • Lead/support implementation of various initiatives that help promote and enhance the firm’s brand in the TMT market by working with attorneys and members of the marketing communications team to develop topics and oversee thought leadership reports/articles by attorneys.
  • Strategic review of industry conferences, partner placement and overall support, working with other firm departments as needed (i.e., Marketing, PR, Practice Development, etc.).
  • Work with individual partners on specific business developments efforts and pursuits.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success, resulting impact and achieving results within a partnership environment. Must have executive level presence, a high degree of poise and presence with the ability to interact effectively, build relationships with several different constituents, and the ability to influence action and achieve results.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master of Business Administration degree (MBA), preferred but not required
  • Senior professional experience with a minimum of 8 years of experience in business development within a large professional services firm
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the TMT industry

Ropes & Gray is proud to offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package to our business support team members. The anticipated pay range for this role is $141,500 – $211,000, which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.
