Geneva is the internationally recognized center of expertise in many priority areas of UN Women’s engagement and in related global issues, including human rights, health, peace and security, labour, economics, trade, migration, humanitarian affairs, disaster risk reduction, science, telecommunications, the environment and sustainable development. The UN Women Geneva Office engages with intergovernmental processes and a broad range of stakeholders in Geneva in supporting them to effectively contribute to the full realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls and their human rights by 2030.

In this context, the UN Women Geneva Office is seeking an International Consultant to support its work in intergovernmental processes, stakeholder engagement, project management, communications and advocacy tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of UN Women Geneva Office, and with the support of the Intergovernmental Support Section of the Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division at Headquarters, the International Consultant is expected to support the Office by providing substantive and technical inputs, and liaison and coordination support. The International Consultant will also work closely with UN Women HQ staff, country and regional offices; representatives of Member States; and UN entities.


Specific Tasks:

  • Support the engagement of the UN Women Geneva Office in intergovernmental processes at UNOG including by participating in, monitoring and reporting on informal and formal meetings, taking notes and drafting minutes;
  • Provide substantive and logistical support for the organization of the Geneva Office events and briefings at the UNOG, including in supporting the drafting of background materials and content, in engaging key partners, and disseminating information on the events;
  • Communication support, including the development of communications materials, rolling out UN Women’s global awareness raising campaigns within Geneva, preparation of media briefings and interviews, social media campaigns and managing dissemination lists;
  • Project management of UN Women Geneva and in collaboration with other UN agencies
  • Handle inquiries from the general public, and facilitate logistics for the Office visitors;

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in gender studies, international relations, communications, law, human rights, social sciences, humanities or related areas is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.


Experience:

  • At least three years of combined work experience in these areas: communications, international relations.
  • Strong academic background in communications, international relations, political or social sciences, law, public relations, public administration or other related field
  • Experience from and knowledge of the UN system or other intergovernmental processes.
  • Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience working in communications and advocacy, and/or research and analysis at the national and international level is an asset.


Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of French and another UN language is a distinct advantage.
