We are seeking an experienced Communications Design Technician. This individual must be a self-starter willing to travel within Western Canada while working from their home office. This individual must have the ability to work and focus on projects in a fast-paced environment; have good communication skills, able to maintain excellent client relations and have proven organizational and interpersonal abilities.
Responsibilities
The Communications Design Technician is responsible for the design of new or replacement telecommunication copper, coax or fiber optic cabling projects. The position requires effective compilation, analyzing and comprehending of civil engineering / aerial utility infrastructure information. Able to work with all levels of government agencies and utility companies. The ability to Provide technical support utilizing planning, engineering drawings, and specifications to meet various standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a two year college certificate in Engineering Technology or similar related field would be an asset
- Current member or able to be certified in a recognized technical association would be an asset
- Must be bondable, possess a valid driver’s license and able to pass a police security check
Experience
- Telecommunications or equivalent from a recognized institute or college
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years relevant experience working in a civil and/or telecommunications cable engineering or related field
- Experience with National Carrier Standards – Bell, TELUS, Shaw or Roger’s required
- Background in telecommunication civil & aerial construction techniques would be an asset
- Experience in design and/or maintenance of a coax network required.
- Experience in design and/or maintenance of a fiber optic network required
Skills
- Good Communication & Interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with filed pick up and survey equipment would be an asset
- Ability to design, compile & interpret engineering drawings/specifications
- Must be able to work independently
- Good PC skills, literate in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite
