As the Communications Specialist, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing internal and external communications focused on the caring team at Medavie Health Services and the communities we serve. In this role, you will be responsible for developing communication strategies that support the regional strategic business priorities in Ontario, Prince Edward Island and in the West. You will assist with responses to media inquiries, event planning and key messaging support for team members as well as prepare press releases, presentations to stakeholders, and or community partners as needed.
This position also leads the day-to-day operations of internal communications across MHS operations and social media channels. The Communications Specialist will also assist in identifying opportunities to increase brand awareness and reputation.
In this role, your main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Identifying opportunities to increase brand awareness and reputation;
- Leading day-to-day social media strategy;
- Corporate/creative writing and proofreading: developing key messaging/content for employee communications;
- Responding to media inquiries and developing strategic key messages/news releases;
- Reactive (crisis management) and proactive (special event coverage/community involvement/profiles) communications;
- Presentation development/support for leadership and stakeholders as needed;
- Supporting writing and editing of large-scale reports (Annual Reports, Strategic Plans, etc.)
- Providing support for internal events, awards and employee recognition;
- Leading and supporting employee-focused initiatives (eg. Paramedic Services Week, Telecommunications Week, Nurses Week);
- Liaising with graphics designers to ensure high-quality, properly branded visual materials when needed.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
As the ideal candidate for this role, you:
- Have a post-secondary education with a focus in communications, marketing, journalism or related field.
- Possess a minimum of five years public relations experience.
- Experience working in a multi-unionized national healthcare organization would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrate skills with emphasis on decision-making, problem solving and communication skills.
- Have strong interpersonal skills, team player approach and ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
- Possess solid understanding of communication processes.
