About the Role

The Network Industries Strategies (“NIS”) group at FTI Consulting uses economic and financial analysis and network modeling to analyze complex issues involving pricing, valuation, and costs of service across the spectrum of network industries. Our experts provide deep understanding of industries, markets, and regulatory policy, and frequently develop and present expert testimony in litigation regarding pricing, service, and other contractual or regulatory issues. In addition to litigation, we develop and evaluate network models to support investment decisions, asset rationalization, and other business planning uses. We have extensive industry expertise with Railroads, Telecommunications, Toll Roads, Pipelines, Electric Power and Transmission.

What You’ll Do

A Consultant is responsible for managing, processing, and analyzing information to develop solutions for external clients. In addition, the position requires the development of written reports explaining the procedures employed. An individual that succeeds in the position will be able to work independently and to take initiative in solving problems that are faced on a day-to-day basis, continually striving to ensure quality output that can withstand the scrutiny of litigation.

  • Develop and manage database systems from large datasets Perform quantitative analyses and conduct studies as required by internal and external clients
  • Prepare written testimony and supporting documentation
    Utilize geographic information systems to analyze spatial relationships within and between networks
  • Assist others in defining data requirements for various efforts
  • Communicate findings with clients and external stakeholders including presentation preparation
  • Write memoranda to describe the procedures employed to complete tasks and to summarize the results of research or analysis
  • Maintain work papers if they are deemed required
  • Assist in marketing the firm’s current business
  • Work toward establishing own line of business
  • Maintain time and expenses
  • Travel on periodic out-of-town assignments
  • Participate in administrative meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business, Information Systems, Mathematics, Operations Research or Management Sciences
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience is required
  • Experience with analytical software, including databases, spreadsheets, geographical information systems, and SQL
  • The ability to communicate succinctly both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently
  • Close attention to detail
  • The ability to establish priorities and handle multiple projects at the same time
  • The ability to work on time-sensitive, quality-sensitive projects
  • Travel required to client and to FTI office(s).

  • Related Job Experience
  • Experience with analytical software including, for example, SQL, Excel, Access, and GIS software
