About the Role:

We are looking for a qualified telecommunications central office or data center engineer to provide on-site support within a telecommunications service provider lab environment. The candidate should be familiar with installation, setup, and maintenance of routers, switches, servers, fiber-optic cables, Ethernet cables, and other equipment commonly found in telecommunications central offices and data centers. Experience in facilities engineering of data center environments, including power distribution systems, environmental control systems, and data networking platforms is a plus.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide on-site support to remote users for installation, cabling, and troubleshooting activities
  • Monitor day to day performance of network equipment and servers and engage in troubleshooting problems as required
  • Monitor power and environmental systems
  • Run hardware diagnostics and replace failed components in a timely manner
  • Install and configure data networking and computing platforms such as routers, switches, and servers
  • Upgrade computer components including CPU, memory, hard drives, and Ethernet adapters
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot network issues
  • Assist in planning and engineering for expanding data center network, power, and environmental systems
  • Maintain inventory and recommend purchase of supplies such as cables, rack screws, lugs, power terminals, connectors, tools, and test equipment
  • Keep accurate records of installed equipment and cable termination locations
  • Keep accurate work logs of work performed
  • Develop effective working relationships with internal customers and external contractors (electrical, HVAC, etc)
  • Stay current on telecommunications and data center trends, and advise on procurement of new equipment


Do You Have?

  • 1-2 years’ experience in telecommunications central office or data center operations or engineering
  • Experience installing and testing of Ethernet and fiber optic data networks
  • Ability to climb ladders, as well as lift materials and equipment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to solve technical problems
  • Ability to show initiative, and to work individually or as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a noisy data center environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, and prioritize effectively


Even Better:

  • Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or information technology
  • 2-4 years’ experience with installation and management of telecom central office or data center data networking platforms
  • Experience in data communication system analysis, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Experience in working with -48VDC power plant and power distribution infrastructure
  • Knowledge of the theory and application of data networking protocols such as Ethernet, IPv4, and IPv6
  • Experience with installation and testing of inside-plant fiber optic cables, including single-mode, multi-mode, simplex, duplex, and multi-fiber optical cables
  • Understanding of telecommunications industry or knowledge of one or more engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge of accepted engineering practices, computer software, analytical skills including the ability to prioritize projects
