Purpose of the role:
Global financial firm seeks Data Centre Engineer to work within the Data Centre Operations department. Working within firm’s and firm’s clients’ various Data Centers in New Jersey, the role holder will be responsible to prepare the book of work and daily activities of the team. Working closely with our AMRS datacenter manager. The work will require daily interaction with our Project Management and client Service Delivery functions as well as our customers to ensure prompt delivery of all projects. With a structured approach, strong team ethos and the flexibility and commitment to solve problems and get things done, the role holder will be a key member of this small but highly skilled and integral team.
A key requirement of this job is flexibility as the role holder will be expected to arrange work on short notice sometimes late at night and out of hours. (Including weekend)
Responsibilities and duties (include but not limited to)
Alongside the Head of Datacenter Operations, the candidate will be required to conduct the following activities:
- Ticket management and resource assignment:
- Triage new service requests for Minimal Viable Content (MVC) and scheduling work based on its prioritization and scope of work.
- Manage & monitor the ticket life cycle from creation to completion/rejection.
- Oversee the daily and weekly work schedule to optimize the distribution of work requests most efficiently.
- Lead the daily scrum to confirm the work for the given day/weekend that will consist of planned activities, and unscheduled emergency requests.
- Ensure that tickets and associated internal tools are updated to agreed data quality and communication standards.
Operational efficiency Improvements:
- Work with JIRA administrator in enhancing current Datacenter ticketing structure with expanded workflows and integration with other tools, to improve efficiency and cleaner metrics reporting.
- Monitor for the AMRS region the inventory management tool and ensure the team follow the best practices
- Build training manuals for Datacenter Operations for work activities such as updating Device 42 Asset Management tool.
Other tasks and responsibilities:
- Build a durable client relationship with key customers and develop their runbook and process
- Monitor data center capacity (space and power) reporting to provide transparency to the Firm for potential client opportunities or risk mitigation.
- Participate on Datacenter Operations activities related to Cost Saving Initiatives.
- Interface with Finance team to identify new, unassigned infrastructure costs.
- Act as primary tools reference (i.e. Atlassian, Device 42, SharePoint) on behalf of AMRS Data center Operations to ensure all systems are updated.
Education, Skills and background (incl. Education and Experience Requirements)
- 12+ years of experience in Telecommunications or Data Centre related field
- In depth knowledge of Telecom structured cabling standards
- In depth Knowledge of network device / server deployment
- In depth Knowledge of DCO standards and operations
- Advanced work organizational skills
- Professional business communication and interpersonal skills
- Datacenter professional certification is a plus
- Eligibility to work within the United States
Working Arrangements
- The selected candidate would first work closely with the datacenter engineer on-site to gain in depth knowledge of the different environment. Period of 1 to 3 months.
- After the “on the ground phase”, the selected candidate will start working covering the work administration and tasks assignment.
This is an office-based position with flexibility to work from home and career path development to leadership role.
Though travel may be required from time to time, it is not expected to be regular or frequent. The role holder will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary for the performance of this role and keep a close collaboration with other regions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year
