The Outside Plant Network Enablement Team (OPNET) is at the forefront of designing and building TELUS’ network infrastructure . This is a fantastic opportunity for you to be a part of a dynamic, exciting team delivering on major infrastructure and wireless outside design and build projects.

We are seeking a passionate Design Specialist II to plan and execute on outside plant network infrastructure projects as well as support the growth of TELUS 5G and Small Cell wireless network infrastructure in North Alberta. You will be working with our Engineering and Construction Partners in collaboration with internal teams (Planning, Project Management, Construction & Sales) to outside plant infrastructure that delivers services to all types of customers.

In this role, you will

• Oversee internal and external partners’ performance on quote, design and engineering deliverables
• Ensure engineering and adequate capacity of outside plant network is maintained
• Ensure schedules and deadlines are monitored and adjusted appropriately
• Liaise with internal and external customers to determine needs and negotiate issues to resolution
• Liaise with developers and municipal officials to provide communication infrastructure solutions
• Support capital and operating expense savings opportunities
• Respond to and/or resolve customer complaints and engineering matters
• Develop and improve new and existing OPNET design processes collaborating with internal stakeholders for greater efficiencies
• Coach and mentor more junior team members

• Maintain quality standards for engineering designs
• Cultivate internal relationships with project managers, planners, managers, and construction teams to ensure smooth workflow and strategic alignment with priorities
• Consult as an engineering expert regarding engineering design & process, detailed system use, corporate and regulatory policy regarding TELUS infrastructure provisioning
• Innovative thinker with critical thinking skills, curiosity, action and result-oriented, ability to drive improvements, excellent and problem-solving skills, highly adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated experience in building strong relationship with key stakeholders including management both internal to TELUS and external partners
• Highly self-motivated, you are able to take on projects and drive them to completion through collaboration
• Coordinate concurrent projects and/or multiple resources to efficiently allow engineering resources to retire workload
• Single point of contact representation for external departments as required for projects and programs as required
• Lead and/or participate in the development and preparation of financial analysis, studies, reports, and associated presentation material

Qualifications

You’re the missing piece of the puzzle

• 3+ years of relevant telecommunications experience
• Demonstrated ability to produce designs based on sound engineering economic analysis and following guidelines established by TELUS and Telecommunications standards
• Working knowledge of municipal and civil policies and procedures with a high level of knowledge of accepted engineering standards and practices to provision the network
• Knowledge and experience of outside plant analog & digital technologies, fiber optic infrastructure, general engineering processes and regulatory policies in use
• Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing to meet scheduled deadlines and the ability to effectively interact with external customers
• A proven track record to work effectively in a team environment and collaboratively with other departments
• Demonstrated effective oral and written communications skills coupled with a strong organizational and presentational skill
• Knowledge of G-Suite and Microsoft Office programs
• Post secondary degree/Diploma

• Experience managing complex Engineer and Construct projects
• Data analytics to be able to provide insights of business, finance and projects
• Knowledge of safety and environmental policies & regulations
• Experience with TELUS systems such as JIRA, SAP, DOMO, AutoCAD, MyWorld and SpatialNet
• PMP Certification
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), currently or on-track
