Under general direction of the Senior Manager of Engineering, the Design Technician is responsible for assisting in the design and drafting of procedures and preparation of drawings for underground and above ground structures. The incumbent is also responsible for adhering to quality standards and client standards with respect to permits, designs and builds.
Responsibilities
Create pre-design and final design civil make-ready (CMR) with AutoCAD
Revise civil and distribution drawings in addition to pole maps
Create pole maps for fielders for aerial purposes and designs
Create lateral pole sheet (LPS)
Coordinate pole information and data using Spatial net, My world, Microstation, Google earth and other applicable software
Mitigate issues and concerns and answer queries from fielders in a timely manner
Regularly meet with stakeholders, both internal and external, to review plans
Prepare construction drawings as directed by the Engineering and Design team
Operate computer-assisted design (CAD) and drafting workstations
Assist with the development and preparation for design sketches
Participate in peer reviews to ensure the conformance to specifications and design data standards are met
Review proposed civil work and ensure accuracy prior to permitting to avoid any unnecessary rework
Ensure drawings are accurate, easy to read, polished and adhere to standards and guidelines
Assist team members, both within the office and in the field, as required
Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned

Qualifications
1-3 years’ relevant experience ideally within Telecommunication Industry
Solid understanding of civil, fibre and aerial design
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat)
Knowledge in 2D AutoCAD, Microstation, Spatial NET, My World an asset
Working Conditions
Normal office environment
General hours of Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
Ability to work flexible schedule as required
Travel may be required

BA/BSc
Telecom Diploma is desirable
