Assistant Director, Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT), Economic Advisory, London

EY’s Economic Advisory team of over 40 Economists, is now looking to expand significantly on its existing economics practice to capture exciting opportunities within the telecommunications, media, and technology sectors. As a result, we are looking for skilled post-graduates or equivalent professionals with experience in economics and policy to grow our team.

EY’s Economics Advisory team combine deep sector knowledge with strong technical skills in economics, econometrics, and quantitative analysis to address key client issues in strategy, regulation, competition, planning and government policy.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to economic analysis as part of client engagements
  • Lead business development and sales origination
  • Lead sales pursuit activities, pitch to clients, build and maintain client relationships
  • Prepare and present clear reports to support these analyses and solutions
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Excel and other suitable solution platforms
  • Manage own time to budgets and communicate progress against plan to assignment manager
  • Apply or refer to a basic range of EY services and products in meeting clients’ needs
  • Proactively manages own career path and development

To qualify for the role you must have

Suitable applicants will be highly numerate and analytical, typically an Economics graduate with relevant experience as an economist/policy analyst in the private, regulatory or the public policy sector focussing on telecoms, media and technology.

  • Contributes pro-actively to building team spirit and works effectively across teams
  • Delivers to demanding deadlines maintaining the discipline and quality of output

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Knowledge of the telecoms, media and technology regulation and policy issues. Ideally the candidate will have experience of the evolving regulatory landscape with regards to digital content and emerging technologies, how it is likely to evolve in future and the potential implications for businesses, policy makers and regulators;
  • Some knowledge, gained from industry, the regulator, or the public sector, of the commercial aspects of digital media and emerging technologies, and the risks and opportunities associated to them;
  • A solid understanding of the principles of regulatory economics, regulatory finance/accounting and/or econometrics;
  • An ability to solve complex problems in a logical and structured manner;
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work effectively within a team;
  • Strong academic and professional background in Economics, Business or Industrial Economics or Econometrics;
  • Experience of competition and regulatory economics, strategy, and business planning;
  • Experience of applying economic theory to the development and evaluation of public and regulatory policy in the telecoms, media and technology sector; and
  • Knowledge of developing economic impact assessments
