The (Public Health) Business Development Executive, Optum Serve Emergency and Preparedness Response (OSPER) is responsible for applying clinical knowledge to build on-contract growth and secure new business for OSPER with potential clients. Position will report to CEO-OSPER and collaborates with Optum Serve Clinical Services and Quality Programs and other key internal strategic partners to ensure overall clinical strategies are aligned with the business unit strategies and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilize clinical education, experience, and expertise to identify, recommend and implement business development opportunities to support growth of OSPER public health business
  • Partners with broader product and go-to-market teams to establish an impactful selling strategy and market story that ignites and deepens client relationships
  • Partners with broader Clinical Services and Quality Programs team to ensure that all clinical capabilities (products and/or services) developed meet applicable federal, state, and local statutory requirements, regulatory guidelines, and UHG / Optum Serve clinical policies and evidence-based clinical guidelines
  • In collaboration with Optum Serve Clinical Services and Quality Programs, ensure that clinical insights and guidance is provided to both Product Management and Program Management teams throughout the business cycle
  • Enhance customer strategy development, including building executive-level deliverables to overcome barriers to transformation and accelerate acquisition for growth
  • Partner with customers to understand their business needs and objectives; translate clinical knowledge into customized, differentiated solutions using Optum Serve resources
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate a clear understanding of the clinical / public health market, OSPER’s capability and product offerings, competition, partners, and key trends that will influence the market over the next three to five years
  • Apply strategic product thinking, product management discipline, and sound clinical judgement to help others think differently and unlock business value through the development and deployment of evidence-based, high-quality clinical services, technology, and analytics
  • Utilize clinical expertise, a thorough understand of the business unit, and close collaboration with support from Clinical Services and Quality Programs to ensure patient safety always remains the top priority during the development, implementation, and execution of OSPER services

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license
  • 13+ years of clinical experience in a health care delivery system
  • 5+ years of operational experience including contracts delivered by government agencies
  • 5+ years of experience selling healthcare or professional services into federal/state/local government agencies or Fortune 500 commercial entities
  • Proven ability to work effectively across organizational work teams
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, team building and writing skills
  • Proven ability to develop compelling business cases and drive leadership alignment
  • Demonstrated experience with federal procurement processes and project management practices
  • Demonstrated experience establishing lasting customer relationships across multiple levels within an organization, including C-Suite, Program Managers, and Contracting Officers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of sales experience selling in the federal, state or commercial markets
  • Experience working with large federal or state deals, preferably with total contract values of $25MM+
  • Documented performance achieving a sales incentive plan target between $30MM and $100MM annually
  • Verifiable successful healthcare sales experience calling on C-Suite and senior buyers in the payer market

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only : The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
