Our Transit Operations, Engineering and Asset Management Division, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide in-house electrical engineering services throughout the lifecycle phases of stations and building infrastructure including design, construct, maintain. This includes maintaining in-house standards and technical specifications up to date. It is includes contributing to project scope, concept and preliminary design services, electrical design review assistance on all projects within the Stations and Facilities Engineering Office, and to coordinate the design and construction of assigned physical infrastructure electrical projects, in a safe, timely, consistent and cost effective manner.
What will I be doing?
Provides in-house electrical concept and preliminary design services and design review for all Stations and Facilities Engineering Office projects to ensure the integration of electrical design with safety, architectural, information technology, mechanical, communications, civil along with other relevant specialized design aspects.
Plans, manages and oversees the work of electrical engineering consultants, to ensure compliance with Metrolinx Engineering Standards, Ontario Building Code and Site Plan Control Requirements, as well as internal user group requirements. Involvement is through all project stages, such as reviewing (where applicable), environmental assessment documents engineering studies, design proposals, design reports, sustainable development reports, accessibility reports, contract documents and drawings and construction administration.
Formulates and prepares electrical project justifications for updates to technical standards and specifications in terms of the proposed scope, budget and schedule, resulting in capital project requests for Senior Management and Board approvals.
Represents Metrolinx at meetings with external agencies, municipal council committees and at public presentations or hearings.
Identifying, developing, and recommending physical infrastructure programs with respect to rehabilitation and expansion of all Metrolinx stations and facilities.
Visits and inspects Metrolinx new facilities with relevant stakeholders, attending testing and commissioning and preparing deficiency reports.
Visits and inspects Metrolinx facilities with user groups and identifies required electrical rehabilitation and expansion work based on life expectancy, investment prioritization and/or current customer demand.
What skills & qualifications do I need?
A Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of electrical engineering working with building power and control systems, lighting, and telecommunications.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of site and building electrical power systems, interpreting and applying plans, specifications and working collaboratively, with project delivery teams. .
Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of electrical engineering as pertains to sites and buildings, particularly site and building lighting, power distribution, Inverter, UPS and generator systems, Public Address, CCTV, voice-communication systems, remote control and monitoring systems, security and alarm systems, communications, building controls and power distribution systems, and energy efficiency.
Working knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and related portions of the Ontario Building Code is required.
A licensed a P. Eng. designation and/or other relevant technical certifications would be an asset.
Thorough understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety and Operating procedures would be an asset.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently, strong interpersonal and negotiating skills and analytical ability are a must.
Proficiency in the use of various Office suite computer applications is essential.
Experience in asset management plan including a background in tracking inventory, condition assessment and investment prioritization would be considered an asset.
