Subsurface Utility Engineering Field Technician

The Position

The field technician will be required to use their knowledge & experience to assist with completing subsurface, aerial, topographic, rail and water crossing surveys for third-party companies on a variety of projects throughout Ontario.

Responsibilities

· Reports to the Subsurface Utility Engineering Program Manager

· Assist with field surveys through a variety of mediums including but not limited to;

o Subsurface Utility Surveys

o Aerial Surveys

o GPS / Topographical Surveys

o Rail and water crossing

o Review of utility records

o Review of third-party permits

· Gathering field survey information on above and below grade infrastructure for a variety of clients, utilizing methodology and processes

· Preparation and translation of field work to supply finished product to the project coordinator / project manager / engineering department

· Ongoing development of company’s survey processes and methodologies to further develop operational efficiencies

Requirements

• Have knowledge and experience with underground utilities
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with Topcon and Trimble devices
• Minimum 3 years’ experience completing topographical and GPS surveys
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD & Microstation
• Valid G license and clean driving abstract
• Extensive travel in the Golden Horseshoe
• Working, reliable own car, travel daily is required as part of the position
• Ability to work longer days, in remote areas with little to no direct supervision.
• Work overtime hours as required
• Able to work in a team atmosphere
• Attend site meetings with customers to discuss project scope as required
• Excellent spoken & written communication skills
• Past SUE, telecom, outside plant design or construction experience an asset
• Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions

The Location

Planview Utility Services has 3 offices – Markham, London and Ottawa. Our clients and their projects are based throughout the province. This position will be out of the Markham office.
