ESTIMATOR (Communications / Low Voltage)

About Us: Metro Electric is a turnkey electrical contractor with four divisions: electrical construction, communications, wireless/DAS solutions, and 24/7 emergency service and maintenance.

Metro Electric has a field crew of 250 experienced electricians and technicians, a management team of 40 and a fleet of 125 vehicles. With headquarters in San Francisco, Metro serves 15 Bay Area counties.

A Few Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of comprehensive labor and material estimates for communication dept.
  • Attend site-walk and pre-bid meetings, documenting site conditions for use in the development of accurate cost estimates.
  • Ensures timely completion of and meets bid schedules and deadlines.
  • Coordination with electrical estimating teams.
  • Design/engineer low voltage pathways, conduit systems, and structured cabling systems
  • Work in conjunction with preconstruction sales teams.
  • Coordination with material manufacturers and representatives
  • Coordination/Management of sub-contractor scopes/bids
  • Management control of bid documents

Skills and Abilities:

  • Talented organizational skills
  • Self-motivating and creative problem solving techniques
  • Ability to present information in oral, written, and graphic form
  • Excellent communication, email, and phone skills.
  • Proficient in Adobe & Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Knowledge of construction principles, techniques and procedures a plus
  • Proficiency in reading/understanding blueprints/drawings

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience with Structured Cabling and Low Voltage Systems design, engineering and estimating large and small projects.
  • Awareness of NEC Code, local code(s), and EIA/TIA/BICSI Standards.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently as well as a part of the team.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of cabling materials and methods / process of installation.
  • Read and understand civil, architectural, structural, MEP, and Telecommunications plans and specifications (Division 27000 and 28000) as they relate to the structured cabling work.
  • Proficient using computer (Microsoft Office suite).
  • Bluebeam experience
  • RCDD is preferred.
