Fiber Technician

A fibre optic splicer is in charge of creating connections between two fibre optic cables to ensure the continuity of communication between two telecommunication devices. Fibre optic splicers use special tools to manipulate cables and create new or maintain connections. Fibre optic splicers typically come under the job description of fibre optic technicians and work with broadband and communication companies to ensure that internet, phone lines and television signals can transmit without delay or interruption in quality.

Here are some tasks that a fibre optic splicer carries out daily:

• install fibre optic cables in homes and businesses

• work with other tradespeople to install and map underfloor fibre-optic cables

• book appointments with clients

• prepare invoices

• test the safety of fibre-optic equipment

• create new connections using fibre-optic splicing tools

• fix any broken connections

• maintain any records of previous jobs for their client

• answer phone calls, emails and text messages from clients

• attend emergency call outs

• map the layout of new connections in new buildings
