Summary: The key role of the Mad Dash Field Engineering Technician provide field-based technical support for the local utility supporting the communication network for their Smart meters. Manhattan area driving traveling 95%, driving traveling within 5 boroughs 5%.
Technical:
· Install, program, and configure interval data recorders, power monitoring meters, and other energy monitoring related hardware
· Install telecommunications hardware such as cellular modems, hotspots, and familiarity with Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity to insure communications of attached devices and their data uploads
· Test signal strengths of both cellular and Smart Meter networks used for meters to communicate with the system.
· Document readings found on sites and use reading to determine best course of action to improve network signals
· Determine proper location of equipment used to provide the communication for the network
· Install hardware and peripheral devices on the network to improve the communication of the mesh network
· Installation of low voltage cable for antenna runs through commercial buildings
· Commissioning and re-commissioning of installed interval data recorders, power monitoring meters, and other hardware that was installed at customer locations
· Troubleshooting and repair of installed hardware; device failures, data issues, communications failures and other hardware related issues
· Ability to bend and install conduit following NEC standards
· Ability to understand the theory of and installation of basic electrical components such as relays, contactors, and circuit breakers following NEC standards
· Ability to read and comprehend electrical and control diagrams, blue prints, schematics, technical drawings, work orders, instructions and formulas
Operational & Administrative:
· Assist with diagnose installation errors and hardware defects.
· Track and report inventory items used.
· Follow all established processes and procedures.
· Maintain professional demeanor with clients and customers
· Operate and maintain Mad Dash vehicle.
· Training for continuous improvement and development.
· Installation assessment or survey/audit documentation.
· Use of operational software to complete and submit documentation.
Requirements
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
· Ability to use and climb ladders if necessary, for site requirements
· Ability to work both indoors and outdoors
· Recognizes exposure to live circuits and/or operating machinery
· Ability to lift/carry 50-75 lbs. if necessary, for site requirements
· Repetitive motion with both hands, wrists and fingers
· Capacity to work in spaces such as attics or basements
· Ability to adapt to changing work schedules and environments, hours may include weekends
Education/Experience:
· Minimum of 4 years of post-high school, college or technical training in electronics, electrical, or HVAC. Or the equivalent years of experience in a related field.
· Familiarization with electrical and mechanical components and systems.
· Experience with electrical and mechanical components and systems
· Experience with residential and commercial HVAC systems
· Experience in installation methods for low voltage cable, with interest to learn higher voltage work
· OSHA 10 preferred
· Valid Driver’s License
