Job Summary:
Performs field Site Walks to include responsibilities for aerial, underground and customer premise data collection. Responsible for value engineering, meeting or exceeding all client deadlines, and determining how designs impact construction, installation and future maintenance. Must be able to demonstrate comprehensive ability to support engineering, understand the applicable electrical safety code inside buildings, and act as a liaison for the client. Will be the interface with the local agencies/personnel on planning, design, standards and quality review, end-customer engagement and costing matters related to structured-cabling and environmental activity. The majority of fieldwork is conducted indoors in private properties or on client premises.
**No climbing required. Must be local to the Seattle Metro area. A vehicle must be provided. Mileage reimbursement is offered along with full benefits.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Conduct accurate site surveys on customer premises and new construction sites
- Inspect existing customer owned structures for spacing and power requirements
- Collect data in the public right of way and on private property
- Clearly communicate relevant information with property owners, managers and customers
- Determine ideal locations for new facilities and equipment
- Determine existing and new locations for fiber optic, copper and coax cables
- Accurately depict new installation route opportunities
- Assure that personal vehicle is maintained to CHC safety standards
- Work in various client specific systems to produce a cost-effective engineered path for design and construction to place, splice, install and maintain cable & equipment for service orders
- Identify the necessary requirements to successfully attach fiber/copper/coax cables and other terminating equipment at a customer premise in OSP and ISP environments.
- Responsible for always conducting job in safe manner
- Take pictures of job sites, pole conditions and other relevant structures or landmarks
- Upload clear images, files, hand notes, and sketches, and edit for quality and cohesiveness using internal and client systems
- Occasionally gather field data outside customer premise (Underground/Buried Cable layout surveys, Aerial and Pole)
- Occasionally inspect the work of construction contractors
- Daily travel to job site(s) using personal vehicle
- Occasional extended travel out of assigned market may be requested
Required Skills & Qualifications:
General
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience and understanding of outside plant engineering and construction techniques
- Knowledge of fiber networking, routing, and network management
- 1 + years Aerial and Underground Field experience and/or Inside Plant Knowledge
- Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
- Superior time management skills
- Ability to be flexible, take direction with ease, including changes to schedule and workflow priorities
- Critical thinking skills; make assessments and provide solutions to problems
- Ability to maintain professional tact in a fast-paced work environment with internal personnel and clients
- Superior customer service skills
- Highly organized, self-starter, and detail oriented
- Valid driver’s license and ability to accommodate travel in personal vehicle; satisfactory driving record
- Ability to follow direction in maintaining all Field Safety standards
- Physical requirements:
- Ability to stand, stoop, squat and bend for extended periods of time
- Ability to look up for extended periods of time
- Ability to walk for extended periods of time and/or long distances
- Ability to navigate through potential uneven walkways/terrain
- Tolerant to extreme elements (heat, sun, wind, rain, snow, etc.)
- Good vision and depth perception (corrective lenses OK)
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift 10lbs minimum, and potentially up to 50lbs
Technical
- Experience with Microsoft Power Point and Microsoft Excel
- Deadline driven, self-motivated, and technically savvy
- MDT experience is a plus
- ArcGIS Collector and/or Fulcrum experience is a plus
- Telecom client-specific systems experience is a plus
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics preferred
- Deep understanding of Inside and Outside Plant Engineering as it pertains to the architecture of various FTTX networks a plus
- RCDD and/or BICSI certification a huge plus
- Construction experience preferred, but not required
