The Surveyor will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and processing engineering data. Tasks are relative to surveying activities such as the collection of topographical attributes, surface features, and field surface markings that are completed by utility designations. A good understanding of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigation type services is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Read, understand, interpret, and correlate utility maps/references and construction drawings to correlate the presence of underground utilities and/or above ground features with what exists in the field.
- Acquire survey data for Boundary, Control, GPS, Subsurface Utilities, and LiDAR projects in all areas within the boundaries of Ontario.
- Processing and quality control of data acquisition in surveying software. Prepare survey deliverables in MicroStation and/or CAD platforms.
- Complete calculations and production of surveys, maps, and reports.
- Operate various types GPS or Total Station Surveying equipment to survey the locations of various types of above ground features and utility markings within a specified work area for pre-engineering purposes
- Above ground features include: Manholes, Catch basins, poles, valves, curb lines, Hydrants, etc.
- Utilities may include gas, water, hydro/electrical, communications, sewers, and other types of utilities.
- Complete field sketches & relative documentation for the field work completed – where required.
- Liaison with sub-contractors to assist and document utility lines, and/or test pit locations (completed by hydrovac) marked in the field.
- Follow safe work practices and abide by all safety rules and regulations.
- Any and all other duties as assigned in order to meet Company objectives.
Requirements:
- At least (2 – 3) years of experience in a similar position with a strong background in field survey.
- Must have 6+ months of recent in-field GPS experience
- Must have 6+ months of recent in-field Total Station experience
- High School Diploma and/or a College or Technical Program (Civil / Structural Engineering, or Architectural Technologies) is an asset.
- Understanding of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Standards CI/ASCE 38-02.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and adhere to company safety policies.
- Must be able to work in difficult terrain conditions / uneven surfaces (slopes, hills, vegetation areas, ballast) and carry GPS / Total station and other equipment (up to 50lb) for 1 – 2km on foot, where required.
- Able to work during day, night, and weekend shift hours (depending on the project).
- Knowledge and experience in various surveying platforms such as MicroStation, Geopak and/or CAD/Civil 3D.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite applications: Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Capable of working with various coordinate systems, right-of-way maps, and utility plan references.
- Capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
- Strengths in communication, organization, and math are a benefit.
- Must have a valid G driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract
