JOB OPPORTUNITY – Financial Analyst – Full-Time Contract (18 months)


ROLE OVERVIEW

This position plays an integral role in the Accounting department. The position works closely with the Finance Manager and has day-to-day responsibility for the financial analysis of monthly results, the preparation of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and the quarterly submissions to government ministries.

The position is expected to take a lead in the performing independent analyses, monitoring program expenditures in comparison to detailed budgets on a regular basis to ensure programs are operating within their financial means. As well, the position coordinates the reporting of quarterly statistics to two ministries, working closely with the service areas to ensure that requirements are met.

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Analyzes monthly results comparing actual performance to budget, develops variance explanations and highlights areas requiring corrective action for Controller.
  • Leads in the preparation of Quarterly and Annual filing requirements, including statistical data, for various Ministries (3 MCCSS, 1 MOHLTC, 1 TC LHIN); works with departments to streamline the collection of statistical data.
  • Leads in the preparation of the annual budgets for various funding sources, for approval by senior management and the Board.
  • Assists in the preparation of quarterly financial forecasts and any reports to be included with the Board package.
  • Identifies financial requirements associated with each funding source and works with the Senior Director, the Accountant, Senior Management and/or Program Directors as necessary to ensure compliance is possible.
  • Monitors that all reporting deadlines (annual, semi-annual, quarterly, monthly) as required by our various funding sources and regulatory bodies are met.
  • Leads in the preparation of year-end financial statements and supporting working papers, ensuring that auditors’ requirements are met.
  • Using existing accounting software designs special reports to streamline the reporting of financial information, the completion of analyses and maximize efficiencies within the department.
  • Performs other related tasks and responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the Senior Director, such as financial projections with respect to corporate and/or program restructuring proposals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in business with a concentration in finance, accounting or economics
  • An MBA and/or an accounting designation (CMA, CA, CGA) completed or in progress preferred
  • 2-3 years of progressive experience in telecommunications, and/or within finance or marketing department
  • Experience working in non-profit sector would be considered an asset
  • Analytical skills with the ability to deal with ambiguity and make sound decisions
  • Expert level working knowledge of Excel and other MS Office applications
  • Working level knowledge of SAS or SQL experience
  • Converting data to valuable information
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and competing priorities under short timelines
  • Comfort and confidence in dealing with senior leadership
  • Takes initiative, and acts as a catalyst for program and project execution
  • Strong interpersonal, communications, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and motivating others
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude, and determined to learn and sharpen skills on an ongoing basis
