General Laborer (Telecommunications Crew)

Primary Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Reporting to Site Superintendent / Supervisor
  • Field labour such as handling conduit, pulling fibre optic cable and setting vaults
  • Fusing HDPE conduit
  • Assisting directional driller by handling rods, attaching reamers, hooking pipe or cables
  • Complying with all safety requirements of the job
  • Operating equipment such as backhoe, mini-ex, skid steer
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:

  • Preferred 1-year experience in construction
  • Experience operating underground utility and telecommunication installations.
  • Ability to think logically about work at hand and compare site conditions with project designs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with supervisors, peers and clients
  • Ability to travel where projects dictate
  • Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to work long and unpredictable hours
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs.; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
  • Criminal Background Check as required for secure sites
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications/Assets:

  • Experience with installing Telecommunications or Hydro underground utilities
  • Class 3 License w/ Air
  • Experience operating Heavy Equipment

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $18.00-$23.00 per hour dependent on experience

Experience:

  • construction: 1 year (preferred)
  • Fiber Optic or Telecommunications: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Class 5 Licence (required)
  • Class 3 Licence (preferred)
  • Class 1 Licence (preferred)
