GIS Technician – Telecommunications

Job Description
Summary: The GIS Technician position will perform a variety of technical, design, and GIS duties related to the design of outside plant (OSP) telecommunications projects. The role requires a highly motivated self-starter who possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a large cross-functional team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists the design team develop and implement plans positively impacting the accuracy of our maps that support DFX strategies, standards, and policies
• Serves as a subject matter expert in and provides technical expertise for GIS technologies
• Understand the collection and processing of tactical and wide area mapping imagery
• Creates, analyzes, reports, converts, or transfers data using specialized applications and program software
• Publish maps and create applications using QGIS
• GIS Analysts must have a background and/or education in GIS mapping and be able to work in a team environment.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with Project Team on items related to scope, schedule, budget, and quality
• Complete assigned projects on time and on budget
• Other duties are required

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• GIS post-grad certification or equivalent education or equivalent work experience
• Proficient in ArcGIS (Desktop / Pro), QGIS, 3GIS, AutoCAD
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL/PostGIS or other RDBMS considered an asset
• Experience with Geodatabase
• Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work and collaborate in a team environment
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Highly motivated self-starter with an attention to detail is a must
• Experience with customer specific applications such as SpatialNet an asset
• Knowledge of RF/CATV and fibre systems (fibre-to-the home/FTTH, FTTB, FTTx) an asset
• Previous telecommunications or utility drafting and design experience an asset

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $24.00-$30.00 per hour
