We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Systems to join us at Airband to head up our business systems function. Airband is an Internet Service Provider bringing broadband to rural areas through a mixture of technologies and having secured several £multi million projects, and with the view of acquiring more.

Our mission is simple – everyone deserves better broadband. In 2009 we saw those with rural roots were dogged by slow speeds and inconsistent connection. Apparently, nothing could be done. But we could fix the problem! Our ambition was to build the largest non-urban broadband network for hard-to-reach communities across the UK. And over a decade later, we are proud to be the go-to specialist for reliable, rural broadband.

Overview and Responsibilities

The Head of Systems will determine and implement the Airband’s Information Technology strategy to include data, system and technical architecture, focussing on the basics to build strong foundations and implementing technology and services to support operations at scale.

You will get to set the strategy for this team, your chance to make your mark within a very interesting landscape.

You will be experienced in the delivery of integrated software solutions, systems, infrastructure, BI and visualisation tools and Office IT and will work closely with other members of the Leadership team within Airband ensuring alignment to business strategy.

You are ambitious, an expert in your field with the tenacity to succeed. You will be able to demonstrate the essential criteria whilst bringing your own passion and ideas. Some of the key skills you will possess are:

At least 5 years’ experience of working across a multitude of OSS and BSS systems, ideally within a Telecommunications or Service Provider business

Person Specification

• Wide ranging technical knowledge, understanding data security, regulatory and compliance requirements
• Broad understanding of ETOM and TOGAF
• ITIL Aware, working closely with our Service function
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to engage others easily, highly proficient and confident in presenting to users, senior managers and board members alike
• Pragmatic and commercial decision-making skills
• A preference to operate with pace, highly organised with a focus on delivering clear outcomes
• Technically proficient as a generalist and a solutions finder / facilitator, you will be comfortable engaging in meaningful dialogue across several systems, network, infrastructure and security topics.
• You are abreast of the latest technologies and can determine suitability of technology choices.
• You will be aware of general policy & law which influence your decision making and policy setting
• Technology agnostic, willing and able to explore suitable and scalable technologies for Airband
• The ability and desire to both lead and mentor individuals with an understanding of how to get the best from people
• The leadership skills to become a real figurehead for all systems issues in Airband, demonstrating clear ownership & accountability
• Supplier Management, Contract negotiation and financially astute
• Ability to influence business processes, working closely with others at a peer level to constantly improve across several delivery area
