What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for a Head of Design to join the team at Galliford Try within our Telecoms Business Unit.

You will be an integral member of our Telecoms Business Unit, which works predominantly within the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure market, focussing on the Wireless and Fixed Line Telecoms, Defence, Energy and Transport sectors.

As Head of Design, you will take overall responsibility for all production and commercial functions within the Design department and to maintain and maximise quality of service and profitability.

Supporting the Business Unit Director to achieve the 3-5 year Business Plan and Budget through Business Development and Marketing input specific to the design department.

Day-to-day you will manage the Galliford Try Telecoms Design process, manage external designers, design consultants and design co-ordinators and ensure design resource levels (directly employed & contract staff, suppliers, sub-contractors) are appropriate to deliver current contracts in accordance with the business unit budget and forecasts.

You will play a pivotal part in fostering a continuous improvement and teamwork culture by actively seeking input from all members of the project team. Inspiring, motivating and leading to maintain and maximise quality of service and profitability.

You will ensure appropriate levels of communication with other relevant Group and Business Unit market sector teams and internal functions. You will proactively manage and maintain effective relationships with all relevant stakeholders including key client representatives and the supply chain.

You’ll show flexibility, resilience, and the ability to influence and build relationships with key stakeholders. Demonstrating strong ethical standards with openness and honesty.

About You:

Alongside your qualifications in a relevant subject area such as Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, to be successful in this role, you will have a wealth of experience within the design management experience, including experience in the Telecommunications sector.

You are commercially astute with strong and accurate reporting skills.

Alongside this you will be a strong leader and an excellent team player, having successfully managed and developed teams, with the confidence to communicate and influence at all levels and establish strong, collaborative working relationships.

We’re looking for somebody who can read & Interpret data, drawings specifications and schedules, with the ability to build efficient and competent design teams, managing the team effectively in order to meet project targets.
