NOTE:
To be considered on this posting, applicants are required to obtain a Security Alarm Installer License from the applicable provincial government

KEY PURPOSE:
To perform installation and repair functions related to telecom products and services for residential and business customers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical

Install, diagnose, and repair residential and business voice&data services and applications

Customer Contact

Explain/discuss details regarding progress, issues, applicable charges and promote products and services

As a trusted solutions advisor you will be required to highlight any sales opportunities from our growing suite of home products and services designed to help our customers get the best out of their TELUS experience

Administration

Provide information on job status

Prepare time and expense reports

RESULTS OR OUTCOMES:
Work is performed to meet company quality standards within defined time requirements

Administration responsibilities are completed accurately and timely

The posting of performance related data is standard for this position and is an important component to achieving high performance

Qualifications

Knowledge of network architecture

Experience in any of the following areas would be an asset

Installation, maintenance, or testing /analysis of network elements (hardware and software)

Signalling technologies

Knowledge of inside and outside plant facilities

Must be willing and able to work in confined spaces

Must be willing and able to work aloft

Normal colour vision to work with colour-coded wiring

Ability to manage a physically demanding workload

Must be willing to work in any weather conditions

Knowledge of products and services for business and residential customers

Fully qualified Communication Technician Journeyperson (equivalent to current pay at wage step 8 or greater in Wage Schedule 1B, Appendix A)

Knowledge of emerging technologies

Demonstrated effective decision-making skills while under limited supervision

Working knowledge of network technology, architecture and elements, and a strong understanding of their associated interworkings

Working knowledge of circuit wiring, transmission parameters and testing

Working knowledge of automated provisioning, ticketing, testing and dispatch systems

Working knowledge of maintenance practices / routines on network elements

Knowledge and experience of repair practices, policies, and procedures

Must be able to operate hand and power tools, and test equipment

Must be able to understand and effectively perform work in accordance with published work plans

Must have a Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Must be willing to work in locations that preclude your ability to return home each day, on an as required basis

Must follow safe work practices and abide by all safety rules and regulations

Must be willing and able to work various shifts as assigned (such as evenings, weekends and statutory holidays), based on business needs

Must possess Personal Computer navigational skills

Demonstrated professional oral and written communications skills

Fluent in English

Self-motivated, work well with minimal or no direct supervision

Ability to effectively handle both favourable and unfavourable customer interactions

Demonstrated ability to identify problems and situations, take appropriate action, implement solutions or escalate as required

Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaboratively with other departments

Maintain a high level of performance under the pressure of time constraints and a fast-paced changing environment

Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing to meet scheduled deadlines

Commit to continuous learning. Demonstrate the ability to learn and apply learned skills to related situations and complete and pass all related exams

Must meet applicable testing requirements
