What you will do:
Communications/Operations:
  • Performs day-to-day maintenance and support of agency voice and data communications devices and systems including installation, modification and testing of new and existing telecommunication devices, phone systems, network hardware and systems software in multiple locations.
  • Performs monitoring of agency telecommunication and network systems. Identifies errors and performance problems.
  • Establishes and maintains telecom services. Monitors, diagnose and repair data communication lines and network activity using diagnostic hardware and software for headquarters and 90+ ODFW office sites.
  • Add networks and reserve network IP addresses for new office.
  • Coordinates system updates and configuration changes with staff and external providers. Records these activities in service desk software.
  • Provide cost estimates for field offices and headquarters on new installation and upgrades to existing systems.
Customer Assistance / Construct:
  • Performs field site evaluations to insure locations meet safety and electrical requirements for equipment, data line and installation; contacts necessary technicians (electricians, cable installers, telephone companies, data communications vendors) as needed.
  • Facilitates and coordinates work with local office coordinators, management, technical team members and employees
  • Supports telecommunications equipment remotely or on site.
  • Configure related telecommunication and network equipment.
  • Order, configure, implement, and troubleshoot mobile devices.
  • Coordinate and implement special projects as need in support of agency objectives
Communications / Planning:
  • Coordinates the integration of new and established voice and data services across the ODFW enterprise
  • Plans, coordinates, or implements security on devices, systems, and , networks in ODFW offices.
  • Collaborates with supervisor, technical experts, and contract providers for the maintenance and expansion of agency data communications system layout and design including capacity planning, utilization, and compatibility.

Working Conditions
  • Performs a high volume of detailed, technical work in a variety of working environments. The person in this position operates with a high degree of independence; requires extensive travel when conducting site visits and training sometimes under inclement weather conditions. Required to lift and transport computer hardware, software, and data communications peripherals such as servers, switches, routers, terminals, PCs, monitors, printers, modems, cabling, etc. on a regular basis. This position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, and does not exceed forty (40) hours in a workweek. Work exceeding 40 hours per week requires prior approval by the supervisor. May be required to work overtime or odd hours to meet workload demands. Must be able to coordinate activities with agency users and system professionals having different work shift hours.
  • Requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This includes working at all hours and workdays in excess of eight hours. Position is not eligible for overtime.
  • This position has been designated to have authorized access to FBI CJIS systems or unrestricted access to a terminal that has LEDS capability, and/or to have direct responsibility to configure and maintain computer systems and networks with direct access to FBI CJIS systems, and/or to have direct responsibility to review, and/or be provided with a copy of a CHC print-out. To verify identification, the successful candidate shall be subject to a CJIS fingerprint-based record check and will need to complete an online security awareness training.
Criminal Records/DMV Check
Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check. Driving is required for all positions. Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible. You are expected to provide the out-of-state certified driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist. Adverse background and/or driving information may disqualify you from further consideration.
NOTE: Within three days of hire, applicants will be required to complete the U.S. Department Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODFW participates in E-Verify. ODFW is not able to support VISA sponsorships.
We are seeking applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have the following skills and experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of information systems experience in telecommunications or network support; OR
  • (b) An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND one (1) year of information systems experience in telecommunications or network support.
Requested Skills:

  • Technical expertise with PCs, voice/data communications hardware and systems software, networks, switches, routers, printers, modems, and peripherals.
  • Understanding and better than working knowledge of all major aspects of telecommunications, systems integration, connectivity, and networking.
  • A high-energy individual able to work well with and train people having varying levels of microcomputer experience. Must be a self-starter and able to work independently or in teams with strong written and verbal skills and exemplary organizational abilities.
