Topic
Machine Learning (ML) has achieved considerable success in recent years and a large number of disciplines across the industry rely on it. However, in order to obtain a ML model suitable for a particular task, extensive expertise in the field is required. Furthermore, the process of handcrafting ML models involves a lot of manual and time-consuming iterations of data preparation, feature engineering, hyperparameter tuning, and model evaluation. AutoML is the process of automating the tasks of applying ML to real-world problems. It provides tools to automatically discover well-performing machine learning model pipelines for a dataset with very little user intervention.
Among the practical applications of ML is anomaly detection in satellite telemetry data, for which a lot of previous work across literature is available. It is thereby of interest to compare the performance of hand-engineered ML methods against models generated by means of AutoML, which is promising to be one of the future-proof techniques in this field.
We offer you some exciting tasks:
-
Literature review of AutoML methods and applications
-
Practical trade-off analysis between a set of selected AutoML libraries
-
Application of AutoML for anomaly detection for a selected satellite use case and dataset (feasibility study)
-
Comparison with other manually engineered methods for satellite FDIR
-
Results documentation (applications, tools, lessons learned etc.)
You offer:
-
Enrolled full time student (d/f/m) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Aerospace Engineering
-
Experience programming with Python
-
Proven background in modern AI technologies is an asset
-
English (fluent) mandatory
You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
