We are looking for an Intern to join our Avionics Engineering & Lead department for Germany. The department focuses on 3 main areas: Mission Operations, Failure Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR), Functional Verification and Avionics Engineering Lead. We provide dedicated engineering services for Earth Observation, Science and Telecommunication missions. Our ways of working are mostly integrated within the mission project teams and contribute throughout the complete development cycle of our space missions, starting with early phase studies, all the way up to the launch and in-orbit mission operations.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and in particular Machine Learning (ML) have achieved considerable success in recent years and a large number of disciplines across different industries use these technologies to improve their processes and make better decisions. The space industry is no exception to this, as there have already been examples for the successful application of AI-based algorithms that enhance the efficiency of various tasks such as telemetry processing, design process optimization etc.

This internship focuses on analyzing and soloving practical problems of the spacecraft operations domain using modern AI technologies. The objective is, starting from the current processes and methodologies for satellite mission planning, to analyze the data from relevant sources and apply AI algorithms to improve the engineering activities linked to satellite operations.

We offer you some exciting tasks:

• Establishing best practices for data collection, preparation, and analysis
• Designing and implementing experiments to test hypotheses
• Designing and implementing algorithms and models using existing software packages (e.g. Python libraries)
• Developing new models or improving existing ones using statistical techniques such as regression analysis or clustering algorithms or other AI algorithms such as neural networks
• Comparing the performance of AI-based approaches with classical methods
• Interpreting results from AI experiments and providing recommendations based on the findings

You offer:

• Enrolled full time student (d/f/m) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Aerospace Engineering

• Experience programming with Python
• Proven background in modern AI technologies is an asset

• English (fluent) mandatory
• You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
