The IT Systems Supervisor is responsible for daily activities related to the telecommunications infrastructure and telephony services for Gwinnett County. The ideal candidate will have solid telecommunication experience and skills and be able to supervise employees in a fast paced and changing environment. The individual will perform their daily supervisory duties as well as provide project resource planning, vendor management, and hands on technical knowledge to guide employees in telecommunication operations. The supervisor may be required to interact on a daily basis with other departments/agencies and with elected offices and their staff. The supervisor will oversee a team of telecommunication administrators and analysts, who install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the telecommunications technologies for the organization.
Supervisory experience to include:
- Prioritizing and assigning work
- Conducting performance evaluations
- Ensuring staff is trained
- Ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures
- Maintaining a healthy and safe working environment
- Making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
- Overseeing and administering complex telecom infrastructure systems, while ensuring security and system integrity
- Analyzing development and implementation requirements and making appropriate modifications to existing systems based on customer’s requests
- Performing needs assessments and recommending or developing systems improvements,
as well as preparing related documentation
- Overseeing and administering a variety of contracts with external vendors and/or service providers
- Assisting in developing the budget, monitoring and forecasting expenditures, recommending purchases of equipment, soliciting and evaluating bids
- Planning, researching, evaluating, and writing specifications for the procurement of hardware and software
This job requires a public safety background check to include motor vehicle histories, criminal histories, and fingerprinting.
After a 60-day assessment period, new hires may be
eligible to telework on a limited rotation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and seven years of professional level analyst and/or systems experience in a large-scale technology environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Five years of experience supervising a Telecommunications team of 5+ persons.
- Valid driver’s license from state of residency.
- Working knowledge of Cisco Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Telephony systems and Cisco networks in large environments required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CCNA Voice or other VOiP certification
- Supporting Wireless network solutions
- IP based Video, Teleconferencing, Telepresence, and converged media experience
The grade for this position is 107. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
Due to the nature of this position and access to Public Safety systems and facilities, an extensive background check is required for employment. The background check includes fingerprinting, motor vehicle and criminal histories.
