The pandemic has highlighted how important telecoms networks are to society. Nokia’s Network Infrastructure group is at the heart of a revolution to bring more and faster network capacity to people worldwide through our ambition, innovation, and technical expertise.
Our Optical Networks business group optical and network automation technologies and related services sold to our communication service provider customers as well as adjacent markets including webscale companies and enterprises. Our comprehensive wide area networking (WAN) solutions enable our customers to build and operate automated, secure, and high-performance networks at massive scale – helping to interconnect people and things from any broadband access modality to – and among – edge clouds, central clouds, the Internet, and other services and data centers.
Software (SW) development for our optical product portfolio comprises specification, design, implementation, and unit testing of Software according to the requirements and architecture defined in the systems engineering process. To support this process the IT and SDE team maintains a mixed server environment and applications. Part of the environment is managed by Nokia IT, part is owned and fully under control of R&D. Goal of the IT and SDE team is to provide the development teams with best in class infrastructure and tools for developing SW, building SW, and simulating components and systems.
What you will learn and contribute to
In a heterogeneous R&D development environment it is important to react efficiently, flexibly and innovatively to the most diverse requirements coming from cross-location projects and our developer community.
In this environment you will work in a team and will jointly be responsible for the administration, maintenance and enhancement of the local Linux SW development environment, the build tool chain, and various tools supporting the development teams. You will contribute to maintenance and evolution of the SDE in cooperation with other optics sites in Europe and North America. Tools to support SW development largely implemented and maintained by the team and are integrated into the environment. Due this close teamwork with experts in this heterogeneous environment there are many opportunities to grow your knowledge, gain experience, and develop.
Your skills and experience
For this position you should bring
- Experience in developing and maintaining a SW development environment
- Very good and practically linux knowledge and corresponding development environments incl. eclipse, Visual Studio Code, git, gerrit, coverity, opengrok etc.
- Good proven skills in tooling languages such as bash, python, perl, …
- Very good knowledge related to build environments e.g. C/C++, cmake, gcc, clang, …
- Experience with automation like continuous integration, Jenkins, etc.
It would be nice if you also had:

- High motivation, flexibility, and mobility
- An attitude to work self organized and take responsibilities
- Fluency in German and English
