Chartis is seeking a LMR (Telecommunications) Specialist II to support a Federal Government customer located in Ashburn, VA. We expect a combination of remote and on-site work, travelling to multiple field offices.
Responsibilities
- Identify tactical communication requirements and prepare the design and development documents for wireless and wired tactical communication equipment/system installation.
- Conduct site surveys and analyze results; report findings as requested.
- Develop test and evaluation procedures for the TACCOM Lab with TACCOM and Office of Information and Technology (OIT) engineers.
- Develop site-specific tactical communication technical documentation (i.e., Cabling Requirements Document, Design Drawings, Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) Estimate and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Perform tactical communications layout, installation, integration, testing, programming, and troubleshooting for tower fixed network and facilities LMR equipment. Installations may include the mounting and grounding of antennas, mounts, cable ladders, cable, and other supporting devices.
- Conduct price research to present to the Government business managers for the development of Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCEs) and contribute as requested by the Government business managers on Statements of Work (SOWs).
- Assist with equipment inventory management and coordinating shipping in support of particular projects.
- Make system modifications to adapt electronic and communication operations for specific projects and/or locations.
- Install tactical communications equipment, fiber, coax, Ethernet and supporting devices on towers and shelters according to industry standards.
- Manage the schedule for the TACCOM LMR Lab.
- Provide quality assurance and control for Lab Testing documentation, including the creation of test plan templates.
- Act as the lead technical writer and coordinate communications on Lab activities across the enterprise.
- Other tasks such as equipment staging support and RF site visits.
- Work may require some strenuous physical exertion such as lifting heavy objects in excess of 50lbs., helicopter flights to remote locations, and crouching or crawling in small work areas.
- Must be willing to travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 6 years’ experience in tactical communication integration, installation, testing, programming, microwave, backhaul, troubleshooting and design is required for this position. This experience should include:
- P25 integration, installation, testing, programming, troubleshooting and design
- Acceptance testing and verification procedures, particularly in reference to wireless engineering, telecommunications, and information technology.
- Wireless LMR technology and operations, digital communication system, Radio Frequency (RF) Networks, protocols, and Internet Protocol (IP) networking.
- Candidates should also have a working knowledge of the following:
- Motorola R56 standards and Guidelines.
- FAA Standard 19E lightning and surge protection, grounding, bonding, and shielding requirements for facilities and electronics equipment.
- Proficiency with programming and troubleshooting tactical communications P25 equipment, including APX 7000, APX 7500, XTS 5000, XTL 5000, Harris XL-200, Cambium PTP microwave, Fluid Mesh microwave, 4RF microwave radios, Avait, Quantar repeater, Astro-Tac receiver, Astro-Tac 3000 comparator, GTR 8000 repeater, GPW 8000 receiver, and GCM 8000 comparator.
- Audio Video (AV) and Video Teleconferencing (VTC) equipment and capabilities.
- Candidates must also have strong written and oral communication skills.
Required Educations/Training
- Motorola R56 certification — candidates without an R56 certification will be required to get one within 90 days.
