What you’ll do:

As a London Underground Engineering apprentice, you will carry out maintenance activities on communications systems, and will always ensure effective restoration/repair of customer systems under supervision.

You will rotate around the three departments of the Metro business and perform all work tasks under supervision. You will repair and restore to service tasks across the range of the client assets under contract. Perform installation and commissioning tasks in accordance with H&S and London Underground Procedures.

Typical Deliverables;

  • Learn and master the health & safety requirements of the role and understand the importance
  • Carry out maintenance activities on communication systems throughout the infrastructure
  • Install & commission on site equipment in line with the various contract requirements
  • Test & commission a vast array of products across multiple technologies
  • Unload, check, handle, store and prepare all the equipment
  • Work in a multitude of environments from stations to trackside
  • Work as part of a team or work alone
  • Learn the requirements of the different customers and contracts and how to fulfill those needs
  • Become part of a wide and multi-skilled field force
  • Own problems and take the responsibility of solving them
  • Proactively support telent and recognise when colleagues need help
  • Maintain personal contact with other members of the team, Duty managers, Service Centre personnel, leading engineer. SPC, stores personnel etc.
  • Whilst on duty maintain contact with LUL departments as required.
  • While on duty, work to the directions of the Training / Departmental Managers.
  • Work outside in all weathers
  • Work in inaccessible places amongst danger
  • Work Experience logbooks – To be produced and communicated on a Friday to allow Management team to monitor effectiveness
  • Communication with Management and Admin Team of Absence and non-Business as Usual reporting.
  • Image clothing will be worn at all times whilst on duty.
  • Must adhere to Transport at Work Act with particular attention to the Drugs and Alcohol Policy.
  • Whilst on duty ensure that all appropriate PPE is worn.

Key requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs grades 9 to 4. Specifically, in Maths, English and Science or an IT related subject (A* to C)
  • Full UK Driving licence
  • Be 18 Years old from 2023

Desirable

  • Basic Knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Basic knowledge of ICT applications and Networking
