We have a full-time position for a Manager, IT Operations, Support, Security & Technology in Calgary, AB.

The role of the Manager, Operations, Support, Security and Technology is to oversee and coordinate the planning, budget, and development of all architectures: network and telecommunications, data, applications, distributed tools, security, and technology. The Manager is responsible for designing, directing, and delivering on IT security-related activities at Black Diamond.

The successful candidate must have a general IT planning and implementation background as well as experience with network and telecommunications, data, distributed tools, applications, security, cloud and technology architectures. They must also be experienced in different systems, tools and techniques and understand the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches. They must also be able to develop a technology strategy and be able to link it the business plan. Further, they must be able to effectively communicate, lead and motivate a diverse team as well as resolve conflicts in a positive manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan and Manage the IT business and user relations

  • Leads and manages periodic systems validation reviews
  • Leads in managing IT assets
  • Is a champion for the technical architecture
  • Sets performance goals and monitors them
  • Obtains and allocates resources
  • Assists in managing change
  • Assists in defining IT direction
  • Assists in defining objectives and strategies
  • Assists in defining products and services
  • Assists in project scoping and identifying information sources

Plan the Business-Driven IT Strategy

  • Continuously assesses the current technical environment
  • Considers sourcing strategies
  • Assists in developing and evolving IT strategy

Lead the evolution of the technical architecture

  • Provides overall technical direction for data, systems, and security architecture
  • Leads the development and publication of related standards, procedures, and policies
  • Leads the research and pilot of new technologies
  • Leads the design and management of the architecture
  • Assists to market technologies
  • Leads the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan

Manage vendor relationships

  • Assists to define needs and service level requirements
  • Conducts RFPs
  • Assists with establishing vendor performance metrics
  • Evaluates and assesses vendor capabilities
  • Develop and deploy IT products and services

Assists to develop systems and tools selection criteria

  • Assists with assessing systems and tools against selection criteria
  • Assists with technical selection
  • Leads with procedures and training requirements
  • Leads with the design and development of applications/systems/security functionality
  • Leads in decommissioning legacy architecture
  • Ensures any changes because of enhancements are appropriately documented

Maintain Systems

  • Assists in managing IT contingency plans
  • Documents technical architectural impacts
  • Leads the development and management of the business interruption plan

Manage IT Operations

  • Leads the identification and troubleshooting of system/process errors
  • Ensures own work and that of others complies with standards, policies, and procedures
  • Leads capacity planning and performance tuning
  • Resolves minor to moderate conflicts including decisions affecting the technical architecture
  • Liaises with their peers on new initiatives, and assists in the identification of architectural impacts (linkages, interfaces, overlaps, gaps) from system enhancements or upgrades
  • Other tasks which involve deep technical knowledge as directed by the GM, IT or EVP & CIO
  • Escalates issues and identify opportunities in a timely, effective manner to the GM, IT

Manage IT Security

  • Plans, designs and audits policies and procedures which safeguard the integrity of and access to systems and electronic information to guard information against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure
  • Provides risk assessments and security briefings related to security issues
  • Provides education, awareness, and training to the user community
  • Provides overall security program strategic direction to improve the information security posture and assurance level of the organization
  • Conducts periodic assessments and regular monitoring of Black Diamond’s information security controls and practices to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Makes recommendation for improving controls and practices to reduce risks related to information security
  • Participates in review and analysis of security products and services
  • Performs network vulnerability assessments
  • take the lead project management role on occasion

Support and train users

  • Leads the corporate IT service desk and associated staff and processes
  • Provides informal support and assistance to co-workers regarding high impact operations

Qualifications:

  • Computer Science Degree or diploma with demonstrated experience
  • Minimum 10 years supporting security, cloud-computing, networks, storage, computers, and peripherals
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in information security management
  • Experience supporting Active Directory, MS Exchange, and Cisco Routers
  • Certifications considered an asset (CISSP, CISA, CISM, SSCP, PMP, etc.)
  • Solid ability to understand business needs and how technology can resolve problems or capitalize on opportunities
  • Applied knowledge of architectural principles and the design, implementation, and operations of enterprise technology solutions
  • Experience demonstrating subject matter expertise in various technology components (e.g., applications, databases, platforms, networks) and in designing technical solutions (e.g., PaaS, IaaS, SaaS, …)
  • Experience building strong relationships and working with business areas to develop and design technology solutions
  • Achieved a broad range of complex technical and professional work experience, in a variety of contexts
  • Ability to comprehend and present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to quickly learn new technical information and to be creative and innovative in its application to meeting business needs.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills and a systematic approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrates exceptional presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact well with technical teams, business owners and management at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to influence team and specialist peers
  • Must be fluent in English both oral and written
