OVERVIEW:
The Master Electrician is responsible for overseeing the planning, scheduling, permitting, and building of sites in accordance with the scope of work outlined in construction documents, including but not limited to electrical and civil work required. He/she is required to read and interpret construction drawings and electrical schematics as necessary to effectively complete the scope of work. He/she will supervise the work of others, and may assist in performing the work as part of a team or independently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs material calculations and asses, materials needed for build.
- Provides accurate cost estimates and calculations for project planning team.
- Manages the electrical permitting process, pulls and obtains necessary permits for A/C and D/C power systems.
- Plans and schedules electricians and civil crew members for site build.
- Oversees and assists crews with secondary electrical system troubleshooting, repair, and installation.
- Oversees and assists crews with performing quality control testing
- Oversees and assists crews with installs, connects, and tests of underground and above ground systems.
- Observes all Betacom safety policies and procedures as related to job safety, equipment safety and personnel protective equipment (PPE)
- Performs preoperational safety checks on equipment and vehicles prior to use, maintain all tools, equipment, and vehicles in proper working condition.
- Completes time sheets and mileage reports, review time sheets for accuracy and completeness, submit daily reports to department heads.
- Inventories, loads, unloads, identifies, and distributes materials to appropriate location as needed
- Oversees and assist crews with running conduit, wires devices, interducts, DC drops, EMT pipes, Hoffman boxes and racks.
- Oversees and assist crews with Installation of Unistrut, NEMA enclosures and grounding, CAD welds, wiring T1s, smoke detector installation, bus bar installation
- May be asked to oversee or assist crews in performing various construction activities, including, but not limited to excavation, underground utility installation, rebar fabrication and tying, concrete forming, placement and finishing, ice bridge installation, installation and grounding of equipment, site prep work including small scale grading and placement of ground cover, landscaping, and facilities maintenance and repair such as doors, coax ports, cable trays etc. in shelter sites.
- May be asked to oversee or assist crews with demolition work to include cabinet and conduit/wiring removal, concrete demolition and removal, ice bridge demolition and removal, adding fill dirt and stone or other materials to bring landscape back to grade after demolition
- May be asked to assist with light industrial steel installations, (Ice Bridge, H-Frames, Equipment Racks, etc.)
- May be asked to assist with installs, tests and repairs fiber cable in a variety of environments
- Supervises crews to ensure top quality workmanship
- Performs preconstruction site walks to determine scope of work (SOW)
- Performs post construction quality control walks to ensure SOW was completed with no errors
- Tracks daily progress through written reports and verbal communication
- Validates completed work to ensure it meets job design/build requirements
- Maintains clean worksite, professional attitude, and demeanor as a representative of Betacom Incorporated
- Oversees and assists crews with performing installation of electrical components, including meters, subpanels, DC power plants, generators, ATS, battery backup units, etc.
- Enforcement of policies and procedures of Betacom, Carrier (Customer), Tower Owner, and OSHA
- Evaluate performance and recommend career development initiatives for junior personnel
- Supervises crew assignment and hours based on workload and job expectations, supervising apprentices, performing ordering and inventory of basic supplies, and managing other electricians
- Ensures compliance with regulatory operating procedures, including OSHA, EPA, and state and local regulatory agencies
- Reads blueprint and interprets mechanical, architectural, and electrical drawings and documents to ensure proper installation of AC/DC power systems and code specifications for determining wiring layouts
- Troubleshoots, tests and repairs emergency generators and various electrical systems and power distribution systems to ensure that they are working properly
- Oversees and assist with upgrades or preventive maintenance to electrical control systems.
- Runs tests, isolates problems, replaces damaged section of wiring, lays conduit, and performs other tasks as required
- Trains electricians and works on various projects without supervision
- Keeps abreast of new technology, electrical services, and manufacturing processes.
- Performs physically demanding tasks like moving or lifting heavy objects, digging trenches for laying conduct.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro-mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical tools and machines used in settings
- Effective communication skills
- Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Proficient in electrical installation, maintenance, and repair in all settings
- Should possess strong manual dexterity.
- Great eye-hand coordination for working with small wires
- Ability to recognize wires by colors.
- Expert communicator and should possess problem solving ability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- OSHA safety courses
- Effective communication skills, reading and writing skills (English)
- Licensed Electrician (preferred)
- Electrician Apprenticeship/Journeyman Certificate
- Clean Driving Record & Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must be able to accommodate out of town travel, if required.
