Salary Range
- Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like
Are looking for exciting and impactful IT work that supports Sandia’s Medical Clinic to render exceptional service to patients? If so, we are seeking a motivated Software Systems Engineer to join our innovative team!
On any given day, you be called on to:
- Develop new programs, subprograms, and enhancements, modifications, and corrections to existing software.
- Develop requirements, workflow and systems analysis.
- Establish standards for development and maintenance of new and existing products.
- Apply critical thinking to deliver user-experience solutions that balance customer needs, business constraints, and technological realities.
- Create and guide the design of user experiences and interface designs for software features and products.
- Participate in defining interfaces between software systems.
- Apply standard software engineering practices in the development of the software solutions.
- Participate in performing software build, release, installation, and upgrade procedures.
- Develop test plans and perform testing.
- Collaborate with designers, researchers, engineers, product managers, marketers, and other team members.
- Develop or implement software development project plans, budgets, and schedules.
- Research and evaluate new software technologies.
- Identify new technologies, industry trends, and standard methodologies.
The selected applicant can be a virtual worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location be required.
Qualifications We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus five (3) years’ of directly related experience; or Master’s degree in a relevant field; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience managing an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system with respect to day-to-day tickets and prioritization.
- Experience with Allscripts EMR enhancements and version upgrades.
- Experience with development, testing, and issue resolution with respect to interfaces between an EMR and other systems.
- Experience with roadmap development and managing software projects.
- Experience leading teams.
- Software engineering agile methodologies; SQL, EBI, COTS report writing tools.
- Demonstrable ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks.
- Effective communicator, presenter, and negotiator.
- ITLI Foundations Certification.
- HIPPA trained.
- Experience with Requirements Engineering.

The Learning and Health Systems Department (9744) provides agile, integrated, software solutions that simplify Sandia’s everyday tasks by providing integrated, modern enterprise applications and IT solutions for Sandia on of the National Security Mission. The corporate applications and technology we deliver includes the enterprise Learning Management System (LMS), a full medical portfolio of IT products, and other ancillary software systems. We also provide information assurance support to projects across other groups by interpreting cyber security requirements. In addition, we provide security and load testing for applications. Strengths include software system architecture, requirements engineering, software design, deployment, testing, and data integration to support our vision and deliver accurate, timely and auditable data while collaborating with business partners to integrate IT into their business strategy.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
