Job Summary

The structured cabling industry uses many names to describe this position: Low Voltage Technician, Low Voltage Electrician, Structured Cabling Technician, Network Cabling Technician, Cabling and Infrastructure Technician, Field Service Engineer. But here at Fidelis, we settled on Network Cabling Installer because it matches the most commonly used customer understanding of what the position does every day installing networks spanning Information Communications Technology (ICT) that serve a wide range of uses: computer, mobile device, wireless access point, phone, camera.

General Accountabilities

  • Network Cabling – Horizontal Cabling, Data Cabling, Voice Cabling, Category Cabling (CAT6, CAT6a, CAT8…), Coax Cabling
  • Backbone Cabling – Multi-Mode Fiber and Multi-Pair Category Cabling
  • Pathways – Cable support systems
  • Spaces – Data Centers, Server Room, Computer Room, Equipment Rooms (ER), Telecommunications Rooms (TR), Data Racks and Enclosures, MDFs…
  • Audio & Video (AV) – Conference and meeting spaces
  • Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS)
  • Wireless Network Installation
  • Data renewal projects – reorganize and clean up an existing data room.
  • Cable removal and wreck out
  • Certification and Testing
  • This position is a construction industry job and requires physical labor, climbing ladders, use of hand tools, and power tools.

General Requirements

  • Must have personal, reliable transportation, auto insurance, and driver’s license, as this position requires both working at the Fidelis office as well as onsite support at customer locations throughout the Puget Sound region
  • The physical office is located on 1920 S Puget Dr, Renton, WA 98055
  • Compensation is based on experience and level
  • Any offer of employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug test and background check

Position Requirements

  • This position is a construction industry job and requires physical labor, climbing ladders, use of hand tools, and power tools.
  • All levels must be able to perform the physical demands of wiring a building, navigate small spaces, and lifting equipment
  • Able to lift/move objects up to 75 pounds
  • Able to handle heights, the position requires the carrying and using ladders and lifts
  • Able to work with your hands most of the day, involving repetitive motion
  • Stand for long periods

Network Cabling Installer Level Matrix

Level 1 – Installer

-Apprentice
– Beginner Level

Job Qualifications

  • 0-1 year with little to no network cable installation or telecommunications installation experience, On The Job training, will be provided.
  • High School-level math, reading, and writing skills are required.

Skills

  • Basic power (Drills, Impacts, Saws, etc.) & hand tool familiarity
  • Ability to work on a team
  • Basic Computer Skills (email, typing)

Level 2 – Installer

-Intermediate Level

Job Qualifications

  • 1-4 years of network cable & telecommunications installation experience and/or construction experience, including cable-support systems, workstation outlets, horizontal station cables, backbone cables, data & rooms, racks & cabinets, patch panels, testing & certification, firestopping.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of the ANSI, TIA, EIA & BICSI cabling standards and the National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Working knowledge of telecom and data networks
  • Ability to read general system layouts from blueprints
  • Successfully terminate various types of copper and fiber connectors
  • And Skills from levels 1

Level 3 – Installer

-Journeyman/Journeywoman -Expert Level – Assistant Leadership

Job Qualifications

  • 5+ years of network cable & telecommunications installation experience, including conducting job-site surveys; building telecommunications closets (including mounting racks, cross-connect blocks, backboards, and grounding hardware); placing copper and fiber cables (backbone and horizontal); terminating twisted-pair, coaxial, and fiber-optic cables; testing twisted-pair and fiber-optic cables; troubleshooting copper- and fiber- cabling systems; splicing copper and fiber cable; performing cutovers (retrofit or upgrade) of cabling systems

Skills

  • Ability to run your own projects
  • Ability to interpret drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Advanced troubleshooting for both copper and optical fiber installations
  • Ability to choose the correct tool or methodology for specific tasks
  • Working knowledge of the standards of wired and wireless networks
  • And Skills from levels 1-2

Level 4 – Lead Installer & Job Supervisor

-Journeyman/Journeywoman – Expert Level – Leadership

Job Qualifications

  • 5+ years working as Expert Level Technician ready to lead a team or act as a supervisor

Skills

  • Lead installation teams using project management skills
  • Design and interpret drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Design and interpret the job plan and the Scope of Work
  • Participate in bidding new and retrofit projects
  • Understand and enforce safety and professionalism with team members
  • And Skills from levels 1-3

Pay: $18.00 – $30.00 per hour
