This Network Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing LAN/WAN networks to support Layer 2 and Layer 3 transport services. Expertise in transport (DWDM), Cisco routers, IP and routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS, and LAN protocol operations are required. The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of experience in the above specialties, excellent communications skills, and a related 4-year degree.

Responsibilities will include actively managing the design and maintenance of the network in all aspects, including LAN, WAN, and MAN networks, routers, switches, and network management servers. Essential Job Functions:

Support the development of existing and next generation products including defining the architecture, evaluating products, and implementing new technology:

  • Design, implement and deploy routed IP networks with BGP, OSPF, ISIS and other routing protocols as necessary.
  • LAN, MAN, WAN design and implementation.
  • Research, recommend, and present emerging data networking technologies with significant relevance to the company business model.
  • Perform traffic analysis to ensure connections are upgraded in a timely and effective manner.
  • Manage peering and interconnection with content providers and other network operators.
  • Institute and apply best practices in network engineering to ensure maximum performance, security, and uptime of the network.
  • Undertake special projects and deliver cross-functional training classes as required.
  • Work with customers and vendors on a frequent and direct basis to resolve any maintenance or provisioning problems.
  • Support Sales Engineers on an ad hoc basis.
  • Act as Tier III technical support on all data networking issues.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation with other members of the team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Intimate understanding of IP routing Protocols such as: BGP, ISIS, OSPF, and MPLS.
  • SNMP, DNS, IP, TCP, GPON, XGS-PON, SDWAN and related topics.
  • Understanding and experience with Internet peering ecosystems and Internet scale traffic engineering.
  • Excellent network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
  • Maintain knowledge of IETF, ARIN, IEEE, CCITT, ANSI, ITU, MEF and other industry standards relative to data networking transmission systems.
  • Able to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Must be detail oriented & highly motivated.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
  • Positive and courteous customer service attitude.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry or similar environment.
  • Certification such as CCIE, CCNP and JNCIE are desirable.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 – $105,000.00 per year
