The Network Engineer shall serve as a technical lead and shall be responsible installing, configuring, administering, maintaining and supporting LAN , WAN and Wireless infrastructures. Responsibilities will also include providing technical support for data/voice network systems, creates and maintains network documentation, maintains hardware and software standards, and participates in projects / tasks as needed in order to upgrade or implement new and improved communication equipment and procedures

What You’ll Do

Develops configurations, test plans, installations, and instructional documentation for various types of network communication hardware and software including new releases

Participates in and provides high level analysis to troubleshoot network & technology infrastructure/integration issues and identify alternate solutions and recommendations for corrective measures

Install, implement, support, and enhance systems and applications related to Solar and Wind farm IT/OT networks including routers, switches and firewalls, servers, and desktops

Proactively monitors network performance, security, and capacity ensuring availability & reliability and identify/provide recommendations for improvement

Other tasks include:
Maintains positive client relationships

Independently completes assigned tasks

Actively manages individual workload

Serves as Technical Lead for network and substation specific projects

Effectively assists in training and mentoring team members

Develops and maintains design documents, diagrams, standards, and specifications

Works collaboratively as a team, as well as independently

Proposal development support

Completes all other duties as assigned

What We Expect from You

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent field of study is preferred (post-graduate diploma in similar field of study with 4+ years of experience can also be considered)

Strong communication skills required

Experience with network integration and troubleshooting field equipment preferred

Networking/IT certifications like Cisco Certified Network Associate a plus for entry-level position (advanced positions prefer CCNP, CISSP, AWS/Azure certifications)

Familiarity with information security standards and frameworks including ISO 27002, NIST, NERC CIP standards, etc

Demonstrated experience defining system requirements and specifications for the implementation and support of integrated communications technologies into the existing network infrastructure

Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and analytics tools

Solid knowledge of MS-Visio with the ability to create large Layer 2 & 3 diagrams and network and application/technology flow diagrams

Familiarity with multiple communication protocols (DNP/Modbus/IEC61850/TCP/UDP) and physical communication mediums (RS232, RS485, copper, fiber, etc.) preferred

Knowledge of fundamental networking technologies and protocols (ARP, Ethernet, DHCP, IPSec, GRE, NAT, routing protocols, DNS, RADIUS, 802.1x)Experience with design, implement and maintain all aspects of network environment including routers, Firewalls, switching and wireless. Experience with Cisco products is preferred

Knowledge and experience in the application and management of routing protocol selection, quality of service (QoS) implementation, lab and production test plans, are preferred

Knowledge and experience in network engineering best practices including subnetting, VLAN management, configuration management, authentication, etc.

Experience with Design, implement and maintain all aspects of network environment including routers, Firewalls, switching and wireless. Experience with Cisco products is preferred

Understanding and experience with NERC CIP standards and how the control environment impacts both the business and IT processes, and systems is preferred

Design and perform server and security audits, verify system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies

Solid understanding of the OSI model

Basic knowledge for configuring or managing physical or virtual servers

Previous experience working with a Utility is highly preferred

Knowledge and experience in the application and management of SCADA, RTUs and relays, and electric utility automation networks preferred

Knowledge and experience engineering protection and control systems for substation design, including but not limited to one-lines, three-lines, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings at medium to extra-high voltage classifications, is a plus.

Experience with the following is a plus: Wireshark, Linux, Cisco CLI, CISCO Packet Tracer, VMware, Visio, PuTTy

Must have permanent authorization to work in Canada

Must possess a valid Canadian Driver’s License
