JOB OVERVIEW FOR NETWORK ENGINEER:
TWN is seeking a Network Engineer/Architect with expert-level knowledge in XGS-PON, IPv6, Passive Optical Networking; Carrier Ethernet; MPLS-TP and other access / transport protocols at layers 1-3. The immediate position is located at TWN headquarters in Oldsmar, FL. This position reports directly to the Director, Network Architecture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF A NETWORK ENGINEER:
- Network Engineer will review and evaluate proposed Fiber Optic Network design and solutions. Engineer will possess Subject Matter Expertise (SME) experience with the design, engineering, configuration, and installation of GPON access and distribution, WAN and core switches, and transport protocols and methods and other complex routing & switching solutions
- Network Engineer will perform network capacity planning assessment and site surveys, integrate and coordinate with vendors, evaluate network plans and designs, and develop reports to present results
- Engineer/Design Inside plant COLO facilities including racks, AC/DC power systems and infrastructure related to fiber and copper
- Assist in the planning, analysis, design and engineering of inside plant network structures and facilities,
- Organize complex activities for the development, construction, implementation, and maintenance of Inside plant engineering projects
- Utilize sound engineering practices and company objectives to resolve issues in a creative and effective way
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS OF A NETWORK ENGINEER:
- Experience with large-scale service provider broadband access network, Carrier Ethernet and/or core IP networks
- Knowledge of telecommunications network circuit design and/or fiber optic networks or other comparable networks
- Knowledge and experience of various telecom products (example: Calix, Ciena, Cisco, Juniper) as well as design alternatives
- Thorough understanding of the fiber optic network and associated electronics.
- Experience with Ethernet, MPLS, IP, routing and switching, Experience with Routing protocols (MPLS, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF). Packet transport technologies – IP/MPLS, MPLS-TP
- Expert level of knowledge of Ethernet interfaces from Layer1 and 2 including protocols that support the routers and switches in these systems
- Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP and the following networking protocols: TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP, FTP, SSL, BGP, L2VPN, MPLS
- Expert troubleshooting in Layer 2-3 w/ advanced knowledge of Layer 4
- Experience deploying and operating Calix solutions, GPON, XGS-PON & NG-PON2
EDUCATION OF A NETWORK ENGINEER:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a technical discipline, or equivalent applicable experience.
- CCNA/CCNP desired.
- Knowledge of telecommunications network design principals and processes.
- Experience in GPON or Fiber to the Home (FTTH).
