JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose: The primary function of the Network Engineer position is to handle the design, installation, testing, documentation, and daily operations of a mixed Windows/Linux local and wide area network infrastructure including telephony. This includes managing the corporate data center and serving as technical lead and architect for all associated infrastructure including servers, routers, switches, PCs, RF devices, and other IT equipment. Responsibility includes server administration (primarily Windows), data backups, email administration, database administration, and telecom/network administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in group/individual effort of designing, developing, implementing and supporting hardware/infrastructure projects and products.
  • Gathers specifications through client interviews and documents/summarizes the interview results to be used in developing client deliverables.
  • Uses knowledge of information technology and the industry to support members of the team and company personal.
  • Provides mentorship to other infrastructure and helpdesk staff members
  • Provides input for software, hardware, and other purchases related to IT.
  • Contributes to the development of service offerings translating business requirements into business solutions.
  • Participates in the development of infrastructure architecture strategies and initiatives to support business initiatives.
  • Manages LAN/WAN, servers, and telecom environment in a Cisco, VMWare, Windows environment
  • Ensures business continuity and disaster recovery preparedness from a server and communication perspective
  • Designs, tests, implements, supports and documents plans for installation of new and/or upgrade of existing hardware systems.
  • Provide relevant infrastructure metrics to the business
  • Interfaces with all functional areas.
  • Provides after-hours support as needed
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area.
  • For the support and maintenance of the company’s computing environment including desktops, laptops, peripherals, servers, and networking equipment to provide the highest level of availability and reliability possible.
  • Gain expertise in our operational system (primarily WMS) to support and educate end users
  • Manage the Help Desk ticketing system to ensure prompt, prioritized response and updated information to users regarding their requests
  • Assist in helping define standards at the desktop, server, network, and procedural levels.

  • Additional responsibilities may be required per the needs of the business

Supervision: Received: General supervision received from Manager, IT Infrastructure and Systems Administrator; additional direction may be provided by other members of management. Given: No direct reports.

Education/Experience:

Education: Associate degree or equivalent work experience.
Experience: At least 10 years experience as a system or network administrator in a multi-site environment. Advanced experience in server administration in a mixed OS (UNIX/Linux/Windows) environment. Must have strong experience with Windows operating systems with experience in UNIX/Linux helpful. Experience in administration of web and database servers, specifically IIS and SQL Server. Experience in the administration of Cisco and other networking equipment. Advanced experience in telecom systems. Advanced experience in email administration including O365/Exchange

Skillset:
– Expert in fundamental networking technologies, protocols, and services including:
DHCP, DNS, 802.11b/g, Routers/switches, and fundamental network wiring Printer support (laser and thermal)
– Expert in Microsoft server technologies including:
o MS Exchange, Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL Server
– 7 years experience in Cisco Administration
– 7 years experience in MS Windows Server Administration
– 7 years experience in MS SQL Server Administration
– 7 years experience in wireless networking technologies
– Expert with mobile client and server technologies including:
o iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Android devices
– 7 years experience in anti-virus and endpoint detection technology at client and server level
– 7 years experience with Linux
– Experience in cybersecurity tools (EDR, patch management, etc)
– Experience in end-user support
– Experience with WMS, ERP, or similar systems
– Experience with RF devices
– Experience in desktop support of Windows OS

Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals and technical documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, suppliers, agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management employee groups.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply basic math skills, including formulas and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:
Make complex decisions requiring a significant amount of judgment. Decisions may affect product, process, employees, customers, suppliers, or any other business stakeholder.

Licenses/Registrations:
Must be Cisco certified.

Physical Demands:
Position typically requires general office work (sitting, standing, typing), as well as activity to support the business in a warehouse environment (walking, lifting, etc). Periodic lifting of computing equipment is necessary.

Work Environment:
While performing duties of the job, the employee regularly works in an office environment as well as a warehouse/manufacturing environment. The work environment involves everyday discomforts that require normal safety precautions (e.g., the use of safe work practices with electronic equipment, avoidance of trips & falls) as well as safe work practices specific to each operational environment supported by the position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,458.00 – $93,987.00 per year
