Network Engineer – Automation

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Under the general direction of the Manager of Network Engineering, the Network Engineer will be responsible for developing Automation features within the Smithville Network Engineering and Operations teams. This role will be responsible for researching, designing, and deploying the tools needed to lessen the day-to-day responsibilities of the Network teams.

This Engineering role will be responsible for interfacing with the Network teams to identify routine tasks within the team, designing the process flow of the tasks, and developing an automated system to accomplish the tasks. Once the automated systems have been built, this role will be responsible for training and maintenance of the processes. This role will also research industry trends and update Engineering teams.

This individual will work with the System Engineering teams to identify and secure the needed Smithville Server resources. Additionally, this person will be the Software Lead within the Network teams to research, source, or build new tools as needed.

Responsibilities

• Manage CI/CD infrastructure and production deployment
• Monitor and manage installed systems and infrastructure, troubleshoot production issues, and continuously improve the production environment
• Design, implement, and manage network tools and automation workflows

WHAT YOU NEED

• Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or DevOps Certification
• Experience with Python, Ansible, GIT, or other Automation Tools
• Server Administration experience
• Software Development experience
• Valid driver’s license

Typical Working Conditions

• Approximately 80% of the time, work is completed indoors in a climate-controlled office environment (office, meeting room, or similar), 10% of the time outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions, and 10% of the time outdoors in an enclosed vehicle or temporary shelter
• On occasion, the Network Engineer will work above ground where the possibility of falling exists (ladders)
• Other conditions include indoors in tight equipment spaces, around loud equipment, and possible eye hazards due to laser exposure
• Typically works 40 hours per week; may work overtime, evenings, and/or weekends as needed to meet critical deadlines or respond to problems

• Continuous handling, feeling, talking, and hearing
• Often sitting, walking, reaching at/below and above shoulder level, lifting up to 30 pounds, and close and distance vision
• Sometimes standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, lifting 31 up to and over 45 pounds, and color and depth vision
• Rarely pulling
