Job Summary:
The Network Planning Engineer II will be responsible for the overall architecture of the network, health and growth of the network as well as the integration of any potential company acquisitions. The planner will work closely with the design and implementation team on network upgrades, augments, and new architectures across the metro and core networks.
What you will be doing:
- Strategic planning and tracking of network elements across a wide variety of platforms and scenarios. This includes but is not limited to network topology/connectivity, inventory, and capacity needs across PON, IP, switch, and optical transport elements
- Involved in ISP (Inside Plant) projects from research to planning, up to the implementation
- Develop metrics reporting to be able to better present proactive network needs and customer experience to the management
- Work with other internal departments to improve process flows
- Keep up to date on changes in industry practices and emerging telecommunications technology
What You Need For This Position:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications/networking
- Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
- Effective communication skills
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to create executive level Power Point presentations
- Knowledge file management, transcription, and other administrative procedures
- Physical network topology design spanning multiple geographic areas
- L2 switching/L3 routing knowledge and experience
- Strong understanding of GPON and XGS PON is preferred with experience in designing these networks
- Experience with Nokia, Calix, and Adtran fiber-based access networks
- Experience with DWDM/ROADM and other optical transport systems
- Experience with network monitoring software
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Familiarity with Nokia SAM / AMS, Adtran AOE, Calix CMS, and MetaSolv is a plus
