Network Specialist 2 – Routing and Switching

The home campus for this position is Bloomsburg, with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education

This position may be eligible for telecommuting with requisite approval. Per PASSHE Telecommuting Procedure 2021-51, an alternate work site is defined as an approved work site within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, other than the employee’s assigned permanent work location, designated for telecommuting.

Provide network support capacity within the combined departments of the Office of Technology (OT) group, including the following departments or functions:

Desktop Support, Computer Lab Management, Telecommunications,

Network Operations, Media Services, Res Life Network, Wireless Network

Advanced network technical support is provided to the rest of the campus in response to escalated service requests initiated by the OT technical support staff, or scheduled projects within the scope of responsibility of the administrative management of the previously listed departments. The escalated service requests require applying a more in-depth specialized knowledge of network switching equipment, transport media, troubleshooting techniques, network design, and an overall understanding of the enterprise network installation and organization. The managerial projects draws on a greater skill set generally being the full application of technical network support from design through the delivery of a fully functional network enhancement of the university network.

Minimum Experience and Training:

One year of experience as a Network Specialist 1;
OR
Two years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance, and an associate’s degree in any information technology field;
OR
Four years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance;
OR

An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance.
